Does anybody know anything about trapping pigeons for dog training? Is it legal to trap pigeons? I am new to the training world, but I know my dog goes nuts for live pigeons. I believe the birds are $5-$6 a pop so that can get expensive. I saw a trap on ebay for $35 so it might be worth it.

Find a silo that has them in it,then go in it after dark with your spotlight. Keep the light off untl you get them to fly, we would use wrist rockets to scare them up,Then turn your light on pointed up against the wall, slowly turn the light around the silo bringing it to the ground, the birds will follow it down. Then you just pick them up and put them in a gunny sack.Used to get several hundred a night this way. Go to a farm with an old 2 story barn. The second floor has a little door used for loading hay. Put a cage over that door and scare them all in. That is how the guys I know get all they want….and they get lots.

sledhead, I will keep that in mind for next summer. I have found them for $4 a bird, but that is 3 hours away. I am going to try the ideas from above out at my Uncle’s farm next weekend.

Maybe I will bring the pup and do some on site training with shooting and retrieving.
