I’ll be needing to update Fritz and Remi’s dog tags soon with my phone number. Currently they wear tags that are flat and riveted to their collars so there’s nothing dangling from their necks that can get caught while running through brush. The company from which we ordered those tags years ago has changed their style and they’re wider now – wider than the boys’ collars so I don’t want to use them. Of course I didn’t realize this until after I ordered them online, but they weren’t expensive so I’m not too bummed about that. I’m wondering what kinds of tags do you guys prefer for your dogs? Do any of your dogs lose dangly tags while out in the field? Both my boys are micro-chipped with current contact info, but I still think it’s important to have their name and my phone number on their collar somehow. Thanks guys!

How wide are their collars? You can get 3/4″ plates from either gundogsupply.com or lcsupply.com. I’ve never replaced plates though, usually their collars have been worn out by the time I need to and just get new ones with plates from either of those places above.

My dog wears a collar which has the info sewn embroidered into the fabric of the collar. Yes it fades after a few years but works well for around 4 years before needing replacement. Last one I got as a gift from my daughter. I’m sure a quick google search would bring them up.

My dogs have had leather collars from Cabelas with ID plates riveted to them. Cabelas Identification Collar

Picture of the collar on a currently disgruntled ESS (he wants to be outside playing in the snow).

X2 on gundogsupply. Mine are the plates and riveted on. The collar is going to wear out before the plates. My next collar will be one that absorbs no odor. Even my woven nylon collar holds odor.

x3 on gundogsupply. These collars are awesome. We’re on #2, but honestly, the first is still in usable shape, so I keep it for a backup. Can’t stand jingling tags! rotflol

I think their collars are 1″, so we probably currently have 3/4″ plates on them now. The plates on gundogsupply.com are very similar to what we have now. But it looks like they only have brass. I’m not a fan of brass. I like stainless steel better, but I suppose it doesn’t really matter. I googled the personalized embroidered collars… man there are so many options for dog collars and tags these days. No wonder I just left it up to Billy before LOL.

Oh thanks for the photo, Ryan, I like that on Ripley’s collar. Perhaps the brass wouldn’t look to bad on the orange and yellow collars that Fritz and Remi have.

Another fan of gundogsupply here! My lab has had his collar on for probably about 5 years now, looks pretty similar to the one Ralph posted a few posts up above. It has been through A LOT of brush, grasses, water, mud, etc., and has no signs of wear on it. He also wears it 24/7/365.

I have a plated leather collar with name and address but I still have to hang a dog license and rabies tag from it.

Depends on the city. My city no longer requires dogs to be licensed, and only requires that dogs must be vaccinated against rabies. The ordinance doesn’t say that the dog must wear their rabies tag, just only that they be vaccinated. The first year we had Fritz out hunting his dangling tags were snagged and lost. Both cost money to replace, which is why I’m glad we don’t have to have the dog license anymore. Either way, I have a photo of both rabies tags and vet’s info on my phone in case the information is requested.

Ours is the same, but even if they required it, I wouldn’t do it. Can’t say that I’ve ever had a cop ask, even when we lived in a city that required it.

Thanks for the suggestions guys! I have two new collars for the boys in their supply drawer already, so I just ordered the plates from gundogsupply. They look to have a great selection of products and I’ll have to poke around on their website some more. mrgreen

Well I ordered the name plates for Remi and Fritz and riveted them to their new collars. And that when I realized I forgot to put a slight curve into the plates like Billy did with their old ones. Two questions… can I still do that now that they’re attached to the collars, and two: how to I give them a slight bend? I’m picturing a rubber mallet, but what else would I need?

Use a piece of pipe to bend them over to get your curve.

Yes, you can do it now. They’re fairly soft. I just hand bend them.

If you can’t bend them, get your old man to do it. He’s a tough old *&(^&*(

    Lol thanks, Dad. mrgreen

They aren’t hard to bend so I got them to a good arch I think. They boys look so nice in their new collars. 🤗
