To start, I have a 6 month old chocolate lab. Im looking for recommendations of shock collars that also have the beeping function and not just shock. We just bought a house and have a very large woods that I would like to run her in.
I would say she listens fairly well already but when she sees another animal or person she wants to run.
Any suggustions of brand and model?
Does anybody have one they are done using and looking to get rid of?

Also looking for suggustions on invisable fences. We have a roughly 1 acre lot and dont really want to put up a chain link fence.

    Thanks in advance!!!!

We use the SportDog brand’s Upland Hunter e-collar. It works great and is quite durable. It has 1 mile range, waterproof, expandable for up to 3 dogs, and it’s orange. It has 7 continuous and 7 momentary stimulation levels, and vibration and tone options. They’re not cheap, but it works great! Maybe check out Craig’s List.

Also check out Tri-Tronics. If it works on stubborn deer-chasing coonhounds, it will work on anything. These units have variable stim settings with buzz before stim and buzz only.

I’ve used SportDog brand the past 3 years with great luck.

I use a sport dog upland hunter as well. Good shock collar. I usually only need to beep my lab to get him to respond. When I trained him, he would get a few seconds of beeping, and then the shock. Didn’t take but a couple times for him to understand the progression. Don’t follow the command, get some beeps, and then shock. Not too often he needs even the beeps.

I can’t remember the invisible fence we have, but its a stubborn dog one. Worked great with the lab. He could run the entire acre we have. We don’t use it currently. Had a hard time getting our bulldog mix to understand the fence. She was a rescue and is a bit messed up. The collar buzzes first, then shocks. We couldn’t get her to learn to turn around when it buzzed. She would just freeze in her tracks and you had to drag her back with the leash or pick her up. Will try again this summer.

I bought a new Dogtra collar from http://www.collarclinic.com and have been very happy with their pricing (they sell new and refurbished (used) collars…) and the collar itself. Worth a look! Thats all they do…and they do it well!

X3 on Sportdog. Great product. Picked mine up at Cabelas. Check Fleet Farm and others, probably cheaper. You can also add more collars to it later if you want and control them all from one remote.

Another vote here for tritronics, great collar. I have one that’s 15 years old and another that’s 6, both working great. Others I hunt with have even older ones still going strong. You pay more for them but they last a long time.

I have a Tri Tronics from my last dog that is now about 12 years old and still working. I also have a Sport Dog that I picked up as a back up unit and both have worked well. I have far more experience with the Tri Tronics and would not hesitate to rec that brand to anyone.

I have a 10-month old male chocolate lab that is getting used to his now too.

    Good luck

DOGTRA 2500 T&B.. hands down the best beeper collar out there.. IMO.. Ive had them all ..tritronics, sportdog… but when you want a beeper collar for a “non pointing dog” I use these for my labs, this one is the best. It is far smaller and lighter weight than the others.. bullet proof.. same units for 6 years.. I use the beeper function when I dont know where they are.. or cant see them in corn fields, woods, or tall grass. It is very loud.. and they have learned that the beep means that I am looking for them .. and they have learned to divert back to me and check in with in eye sight. Pretty cool. I very rarely ever use the shock buttons, because they respond so well to the tone of the beep. I feel better about not shocking them and im sure they do too. Also if you have two dogs you can have a high pitch for one dog and a low pitch for another, so they learn their calling card.

    check it out.
sells for 375 i think now

Eric, I have a dogtra 1100NC in good shape that I’d be interested in selling. I had to put my 11 year old lab down in November and don’t plan to get another hunter due to my age. I’ll try to come up with a value and PM or call you.

You can also look at Radius fencing. I’ve heard it’s a great way to keep dogs in the yard. The radius is also adjustable depending on which model you get, some up to 400′.

I have looked into the radius fencing and havent thrown it out yet. Based on the lot layout and house layout im not sure it will work out but it may be an option.

get a wired fence! you can make it any shape you need you can keep them out of flower gardens or areas you dont want them to SH** in.. sport dog makes a good one that is a yard colar and a training colar in one and it works very well.. not sure of the model but will save you cash compaired to two seprate colars!
