I’m watching a dog for a few days and I’m wondering what stores around the metro are dog friendly? Once on a pheasant hunting day trip that was ruined by heavy rain I brought her to Scheels and everyone loved her:). She’s a field bred golden. I’ve googled it before and got lists, but they are often outdated. Thanks in advance.

As a consumer I wouldn’t expect or like to see a dog in any store other then a pet store or grooming place.

As a exception it would be a service dog of course.

BTW, I like dogs, just not in stores.

I personally wouldn’t have issues with a dog in any store, but Yea I’d think it wouldn’t be taken lightly in places that sell groceries.

And like dutchboy I love dogs.

I really wish there was a list somewhere. I would love to socialize my pup in that environment occasionally.

I do not have a problem with well behaved dog anywhere.

IMO, emotional support or service dog vest and patches should be only sold with a Dr prescription, like handicapped placards. One should not be able to order then on Amazon. I have buddies that spend years training a service dog only to give it away when finished. It it is a disgrace to see some of the dogs wearing that vest that will not even heel or sit when told.
Once again this is only an opinion.

Some stores may have changed their policies due to Covid. However I know Home Depot, Lowes, Tractor Supply and Scheels were dog friendly.

As long as the animal is well behaved I have zero issue with them in stores.

    Karen alert!

Most dogs are more well behaved and have better hygiene than most children. I fully support it!

Home Depot and fleet farm are places I’ve had my dog. Who I will add is a registered therapy dog.

I believe he’s referring to the individual who refuses to wear a mask even when shopping in a store that requires it, and then when confronted about it, throws a hissy fit.

While I do believe that many dogs are more well behaved than most children, that ultimately falls on the responsibility of the owner or parent/guardian. If there’s food in the store, it might be better to leave Fido at home.

I have personally taken my dog to Cabelas. They were having a Dogs Day special with all kinds of events and prizes just for the dogs. I am unsure if they are allowed on a regular basis. It might be best to inquire about a dog policy before going because leaving a dog in a car in this heat is bad news for any amount of time.

I wasn’t asking anyone’s opinion on it, only asking for stores that allow well behaved dogs. And people talking about grocery stores, which I didn’t even ask about, sheesh smirk

Big box hardware stores seem to be the most popular place to bring pooches. I don’t see them much anywhere else. Those stores are big, so I don’t see a big deal allowing dogs there. I like outdoor dining places that allow dogs. We don’t bring our dogs anywhere very often, especially in the heat of summer, but I like interacting with other people’s dogs.

Florida is very dog friendly. Tons of places you can bring them, but that doesn’t help you.

Try public land or a forest I’m sure your dog would appreciate that a heck of a lot more then a store

In addition to pet stores and home improvement stores like Home Depot and Lowes, there are a few random stores that allow pets: Gander, Bass Pro, Tractor Supply, Nordstrom, Pottery Barn, Barnes & Noble, Half Price Books, Macy’s, Michaels, Hallmark, and Bed Bath & Beyond. When I worked at Hardware Hank in college I would allow people to bring pets in as well, so smaller stores are probably okay too if you just ask.

I love seeing pets while shopping! Even in a grocery store. The pet isn’t any less sanitary than the millions of people who’ve passed though, so why not. I was at Tractor Supply years ago and someone brought their calf in to shop with them. It was AWESOME!

I missed the part in your original question, where you excluded grocery stores.

He asked for dog friendly stores, which automatically excludes grocery stores.

Do you think I can bring her to a dog friendly store first and then go for a nature hike? (insert sarcastic tone here). Yesterday I took her to the hardware store and then we went for a hike in the woods and a swim in the pond.

The two Scheels stores closest to me are not currently allowing dogs in due to the virus. I don’t know if this is a company wide policy, or just the Sioux Falls, SD and Sioux City, IA
stores? Sad, because my two Springer’s love going in there and carrying their bones to the counter, but I understand. The Sioux City Fleet Farm does not allow pets in, and that started long before the virus scare, but I really don’t care for that store, so it doesn’t bother me.
