The boats are put away does it pay to shore fish on lakes when the temps dip this weekend I would assume they would be starting to move deeper very fast after the cool down I notice I’m usually the only one out on a pier fishing.

In freshwater fish have been biting in 7′, no where near shore. Not sure about salt water.

Are you asking for bass or fish in general. If fish in general now is go time for me but I’m not a bass guy so to speak either.

Anything that might bite. I do think bass have already started to move away from shore maybe a pike running around yet?

Plenty of shore spots other than piers. There are always fish to catch. Try a local river.

Pretty broad question since no two waters are the same when it comes to fishing….from a boat or from shore. I’ve been shore fishing a Mississippi River backwater and doing better than the boaters on crappies and sunfish. Plus some random pike.

I know guys pier fishing for muskies this time of year. And catching them. Walleyes are shallow at low light til ice up.

Plus, fishing is always better than not fishing…..

Proximity to deep water might be the key. A guy could soak a big sucker under a large bobber on a quick strike rig waiting for jaws to come along… coffee

I fish shallow this time of year from boat.
Could imagine standing on shore in the right spots would be great as well.

I also stay fairly shallow the entire winter. Most guys that come out with me in middle of the freeze are surprised the fish we caught in 4 to 8 ft of water day and night

I only fish from shore – My experience last year and this is that the bass fishing shuts down pretty quickly but northerns stay around, albeit in dwindling numbers. The bass might be gone from my haunts now. If we get a day without much wind, I’ll give it one more try. But it doesn’t look promising. The 10 day forecast is for highs in the 40s, lows in the 30s, and 10+ mph winds every day.
The season always seems to end too abruptly.

Lmbs love the weeds and weeds are dying off in swampy bays, find healthy weeds and you will find shallow fish all year.

Saw walleyes in less than two feet of water last night. Some were literally touching shore pushing up on minnows. They probably would have been easier to catch from shore than the boat.

to answer your question, I am leaving my boat at home today and chasing a white hot bite while doing some recon for the hardwater season. 10 day is showing lows in the 20’s so the river bite will be turning on soon too. plenty of shore spots if you can get to them.

We’ve been doing OK even though we moved to a new area and don’t know many good shore spots. Dealing with these winds the last few days has been the biggest obstacle.

well here is my analysis on shore fishing. had a spot picked out that was lights out hot and thought I would save myself the hassle of not bringing my boat. BAD IDEA! I trudge through the cat tails to get to my spot and there is a guy sitting there! WTF?????looks like my spot is not just my spot? I had to find a new spot and did just ok but nothing like that previous spot. never seen him leave and he was there until dusk. Lesson learned…………take the boat and make any spot your spot! now I reminded myself why I hate shore fishing……..sigh.

Few years ago we were hammering 11-13” perch in a culvert, u could watch them chase minnows…every vehicle that stopped and asked we told them we were fishing bullheads..😂

Sometimes the best way to find a shore spot is from a boat-you see the trail can you follow it to the road? Better than being on a road and hoping the trail takes you to the lake.

Couple decent smallies from shore today. Fish are definitely finding their way to their wintering holes. Find the deep stuff, fish the edges.

I believe that the fall cool down is actually a trigger for the largest fish to become super predators and feed as much as they can while the gettin’s good.
