Can anyone tell me if the Helix 7 CHIRP unit with side imaging can be put into ice fishing mode? I know it became an option for the non SI units, but not sure for the SI units?

Also, what additional features are all included in the “ice fishing” mode?

The price for the SI unit right now is really good so I am looking at getting one, but it will need to pull double duty and I want to make sure I wont be missing features that I will want for hard water season.

    Thanks!

I have the Helix 7 G2 SI and it has ice mode. However I can’t get the settings dialed in enough to get rid of the clutter enough to see my jig. If you need a basically brand new ice ducer for it I have one! roll

    pfunk,

I bought a Helix 7 G2N last spring for the boat. I got a portable ice pack and used it for ice fishing. One of the guys that came with had a Helix 7 G2 Ice pack and his had a few more screens available. I think one could update the software and get the same menus as the Ice Packs come with.

    mahtofire14,

Have you tried changing the IR settings? I was disappointed with mine at first and I hit the check mark until I found one I liked and I am a lot happier with how it works. I also found the sensitivity or gain needs to be cranked way up or set lower depending on which IR setting is selected.

If it were the CHIRP ice ducer I might take you up on it. I still have an XI 9 20 transducer from my ICE 385ci which is probably the same one you have.

That issue sounds like either a faulty transducer or your settings arent right. You may have to play with sensitivity and noise reduction. The settings can vary quite a bit depending on depth and water clarity.

Thanks for the help folks. I was just able to get through to Humminbird and they confirmed there is ice fishing mode on this model as long as the software is up to date. So arcticm1000, I think you’re right. The other unit must have had an updated software version.

How about the ice unit having either DI or SI with the proper ducer?

I’ve played with the IR, clutter, sensitivity, all that. I have the CHIRP transducer just bought it this last November before the season started. I talked to Jeff Anderson from Clam about it because he uses one and he thought it was probably a bad ducer also.

Make sure you don’t have 1.83 SW on it. You Need 1.64.
