Does anyone troll with bass style (safety pin shaped) spinners?

My older friend who God bless him cannot cast acurately to save his life wants to fish a small snaggy river by his cabin for Walters and SMBs. We definetly will be soaking a crawler on the bottom but I also like the idea of trolling. Trolling a crank in there gives me nightmares with all those hooks (I know the bill deflects a lot) but why couldn’t you take a bass spinner, take off the skirt super glue a Gulp! thing on there and troll up stream? Cannot think of anything more snag resistant and versitile-Ideas?

I watched a show where awhile ago where they did this. The walleyes were in flooded timber and they trolled spinnerbaits through them. Getting weight and speed right will be a little adjustment.

I do I have a nephew that is handicapped and when I take him out he wants to catch walleye to eat. We troll spinnerbaits on a weed line and catch all types of fish. Some days cranks are better but most days they work. I do change the blades depending on depth and how thick weeds are.

No need to remove the skirt of a spinnerbait. Add a single tail or split tail plastic grub and go. A small Mepps will also work.

I agree with Dutch. Why remove the skirt?

Put 3-4in.swimbait on it or even try a live minnow.

Well graph a few times and then figure out where to anchor.

The original Ron Lindner Lindy spin was a single spinner of this style. We used them all the time with a big Sucker minnow and trolled them for northerns along weed lines. Got a lot of them too.

Yep, the fish be where the snags be. Just got to deal with it. I lost 4 number 7 jointed shad raps on wing dams Friday. Time to head back to Scheels!

These are good search bait for crappies too, which are usually in the cabbage and snaggy stuff this time of year.

I don’t get too uptight about loosing some stuff, nature of the beast, just want to be able to get a rhythm and stay in the zone, also want it to be pleasant for my friend. Nice tip on the crappies too. Thanks

Beetle Spin type lure has caught a pile of fish in its day, change the body to what you want, I have added a nightcrawler in a pinch. DK.
