Does a fisheries manager know how to count deer?

I’m a little surprised that folks aren’t beside themselves RE Henry Drew Retirement letter.

I know it’s a long read so I’ll trim off all the fat and lay it out.

What the MN DNR is working hard to do is to combine the jobs of the Area Fisheries Manager with the Area Wildlife Manager. So when you want to talk deer, ducks, pheasants, grouse the person in charge won’t have a clue if he was a fisheries manager. Just the opposite if he was a wildlife manager and you want to talk walleye, bass, or anything related to fishing. There are more combined positions but in the light of brevity I’ll stop with that position.

Are you guys ok with this?

    “Recent and planned closures/mergers of
wildlife offices in Bemidji, International Falls, Glenwood, Crookston and Baudette
in the absence of public engagement or disclosure is a particularly troubling trend.”

What about the closing of the offices? Are you ok with this?

I encourage you to contact Dave ([email protected]) or DNR Commissioner Sarah Strommen ([email protected]) with your thoughts either way.

All I see is more money going to the DNR with less services to Joe Fisherman.
