Hey guys, i just picked up a 2006 dodge durango AWD 5.7 HEMI and it needs a new set of tires. Looking for your thoughts on a good set of tires for this vehicle. Not willing to go higher than 200$ a tire and would prefer closer to 150$. Would be using this vehicle primarily for hauling the family around with the boat and going up north. Ill probably continue to use the ranger for ice fishing activities.
Oh and I would prefer an all purpose tire as I don’t intend to have an extra set for winter. Size on there now is 265 60 18. In my limited research so far people have recommended the Firestone destination at tire and that is around my price range. Thanks
We put hancooks on ours. Dynapro at/m good all around tire especially in the snow

x3 on the Hankooks. Right now I’ve got the 4-ply and they’ve been great! Great traction in both muddy goose fields and on the ice. However, based on my pulling needs I’ll be going with the 10-ply next time, but the tread pattern is the same.
sounds like a winner to me. looks like i can get them at discount tire for about $730 installed. not too bad i suppose of the tire is of good quality. thanks gents. i think ill go with the 4 ply over the 10 ply
you may want to rethink the 4 ply route,why? that durango in and of itself is heavy,then you are going to hook a boat to it, and load family,gear,etc.
the four ply sidewall is weak,usually only two ply’s,it will wallow with that much weight on it and wont last long.
Hankook makes an eight ply tire,but they run a few more bucks than the ten ply,I am assuming because they dont sell as many as the ten ply.
if you are worried about the ride being too stiff with the ten plys,you dont need to,only inflate them to fifty five pounds when just running around town and such,bump them up to sixty five when hauling/towing.
make sure the installer uses the high pressure valve stems,not the regular ones,if you have tire pressure monitors in the rims,they have to be reset for the higher pressure.
I have the ten ply hankooks on my dakota and grand cherokee and I run them at the pressures I just listed,over forty thousand miles on both sets and still over half tread on them.
they are not showing signs of wear from not being inflated to eighty pounds as recommended.
so I called discount tire and said I want to order

called them back. they stated that SKU # is for a 4 ply tire. they said they make a 275 65 18 size Dynapro tire that’s a 10 ply
what size tire do you gentleman have on your Durango? im not finding that hankook tire 265 60 18 in E rated size
The one I listed is their version of load range “E”, we put a ton on SUV’s and 1/2 Ton trucks. 2601 lbs each.
hate to quibble with you big_g but that’s a P rated tire. Hankook makes E rated tires that are different. that’s according to my research on the matter so far anyway. at the end of the day maybe its not necessary that I get an E rated tire, im just going off of others peoples advice and it sounds like the P rated tires have a higher failure rate. Im thinking if im going to spend 700+ on tires id rather they be able to handle a little off-roading and trailering
X4 on the Hankook Dynapro ATM. I got them on one of my trucks a number of years ago and it is all I use now. I’ve had Cooper Discoverer and BF Wranglers, they’re decent but nowhere near the Dynapro. I had 60,000 on a set of ATM’s and had to replace them because they were dry rotting, tread was still good…this was on a 2006 Silverado 1500. My trucks regularly see 30,000 miles a year, half with a trailer, mostly highway miles.
crappie, they do not make 10 ply in a P size tire (which is what you have), this tire is the heaviest rated you can get in that size, XL. they don’t want people overloading these 1/2 ton rigs, with tires that can carry over a ton. You are thinking of 3/4 ton size tires such as these… you would need to change your rims and hubs to 8 bolts instead of 5……

If you go through Discount Tire, have them throw in their warranty (usually will do it for free w/ a little haggling). If a tire fails they will replace/repair it no questions asked.
