I’m looking to get a new set of tires for my truck. 2006 Dodge Mega Cab 2500. 5.9 Diesel. 6 speed manual transmission.
I have no idea what to get. Stock size is 265/70/17 load range E. Of course I will need something that lasts forever, is good in snow, rides quite, handles great on the road. You know, all the usual. This will be my first set of replacements on this truck. The last set were Wrangler but not that good in snow. Mostly driven on roads. No Mudding with this truck.
I will also be going to Colorado pulling a trailer this fall. Want something that will be good for the trip there.

I have looked at both the Discover AT/3 and the ST MAXX. Anyone have any experience with these tires? Thanks.

Could you provide more information than that? I’m not against any as long as it is the best. Would like to keep it under $200 a tire? Thanks.

Have had both on snowplow trucks. Liked them both but I prefer the ST MAXX. Need to rotate both of them regularly. Every 5 to 6 thousand miles.

Michelin LTX are really good tires but you won’t find them under $200

    ^^^
these,I have them on my truck and grand cherokee, they wear forever if you keep them rotated, balanced, and inflated properly,of course this is true with any tire, but in six years of owning them, the Hankooks have out performed the rest.

I originally had the firestones in ten ply,but they seemed to break the belts in the tread prematurely,ie,at around the thirty thousand mile mark, and I am not hard on tires such as overloading or spinning them needlessly.
I replaced my first set of Hankooks two months ago, only had to as the jeep is all wheel drive, they had fifty five thousand miles on them and still looked great, around one third tread left on them.

as far as diesels go,they are hard on rear tires, especially on gravel as they have enough power to spin them and you wont be aware of it even if you are feathering the throttle, its just the nature of a diesel and its worse with a manual transmission as they dont have the cushioning of a torque converter.
again, rotate them every other oil change,or six thousand miles.

I have had both the transforce AT and the HT. the ht is a highway tire and is quite and has lasted. They are good in snow as I do drive 80 miles one way to work and drive the truck on snow days. They have also worked well driving out on mille lacs lake in winter. I can’t remember what I paid for them, but I don’t think it was over $200 a tire This is on my 2500 Chevy.

Thanks for all the feedback! Looks like I’ll be looking at more reviews on the tires mentioned. The comment about the back tires spinning on a diesel is true. I can feather my truck letting out the clutch and you can feel the slipping. I like to think way to much power? Sure is nice going 70 and you want to pass someone. The turbo is a monster! Thanks.

I have the same truck and just replaced my first set at 40K.
Got the Michelens at Discount Tire. Free lifetime rotations and tire repair. A little over $1200. They seem to ride well and are quite. Also free for my wife’s car.

I pull a dump trailer and that seems to be pretty hard on the skins.

HA, the rears do bust loose every now and then.

My stock size were 175. not very common or good selection so I went with the 165’s.

    Mine are 265?

    Not sure what that means?

I wont be pulling anything on a regular basis.

I will mount and balance the tires myself. Have a friend that will do it for me at no cost. Im getting quotes on the Hankooks so I can put Big G on the line? Actually the reviews are very good on the Hankooks?!

Loved my Hankooks. That was the worst part about trading my Sequoia in. I’ll probably get another set on the Tahoe when it needs tires.

    Mis-information
My stock tires are LT 285/60R20E. Which there are is not a very good selection.
    I went with LT 275/65R20.

The rears bustin loose just means – I was agreeing with Iowaboy. Usually happens to me when I take a left turn and give it a bit of gas.

Thanks to all of you guys for the information on the tires. I spent a lot of time looking at reviews on tires that you guys have suggested. I ended up going with the Discover AT3. Fleet Farm has a heck of a deal, I am having these put on my truck on Thursday.

After all is said and done it should come out to about $730 for 4 new tires, 10 ply, mounted and balanced with lifetime rotation and balancing. Also Roadside Hazard. I hope these work on this truck.

Man tires are hard to purchase when you get picky, and want to do the work to hopefully do it right. Thanks

Have these on a Chev one ton and set on a SUV. No complaints. You should also get a $70 VISA gift card with that purchase from Fleet Farm.

Just checked and it looks like the $70 rebate is expired. Looks like that was on purchases made between June 1 and July 15. Would have been nice to have another $70 from the deal. Thanks for the heads up though!

That is what helped make my decision now with my tire purchase. Pretty good deal.
