Do you see this working?

Here is my idea. My dad needs updated electronics in his 2012 Lund. At the same time I have a river boat that I mainly only use in the river and I’m thinking of upgrading my locator as well. Well my old man only fish’s when he is with me either in my boat or his. My idea is to buy a helix 10si and buy an extra transducer and mounting ram so we can just switch the head unit from the helix between boats. Will this work?
    Thanks for any ideas.

    Yes that can work.
    You’ll need:
    Extra power cable
    Extra cable connecting brackets
    Extra transducer

Easy to swap heads between boats

If you’re going gen1 Helix, then there’s lots of folks selling the SI ducers for cheap…

    Yup it will work.

Don’t buy the whole RAM mount, just get a new mounting base ball and keep it all together as one. You can buy them off eBay and Amazon for pretty cheap.

Kind of sad that he “needs” to replace 5-year old electronics. roll

Thanks for all your responses, helps me a lot plus saving a few bucks along the way. My old man and I will be spliting the price. I said the boat is 5 years old and his electronics came off his old boat so im guessing his Lowrance units are 15 or so years old fyi. Also, if I had to choose one map chip which one should I choose? We fish 98% Minnesota waters and maybe a green Bay walleye trip once a year.

I kind of do what your proposing but with a smaller unit (788 h bird). It does triple duty between the bow and console of my boat (run map on it at console when I’m side scanning on the 1199 so I can have full screen side scan) and also in a portable box I built out of an old 24 series battery box for ice fishing. Works pretty well, added bonus I can sit on my couch in the middle of winter and peruse over my maps on it and mark way points of places to try in the summer.
