Do you run "Black", and do you get "Back"

So everyone knows I have had issues with my 2008 OptiMax 115. To date the motor is on its second controll module, and 3rd complete set of coils. The motor has quit me so many times its rediculous. The most recent, Mercury suggested replacing all the coils with their most “recent” coils.
My question to the forum. Would I be asking too much to have Mercury replace the motor, or repurchase it as a lemon?
I know Mercury is trying to make it right, but enough is enough IMO.

How would you guys handle this with Mercury?

Can’t hurt to ask for a replacement.
Worst they can do is say no.

Has Merc been making these fixes under warranty? I highly doubt they are going to replace a 6 yr old motor.

FWIW, I have a 2003 150 opti that has been flawless. Actually all of the Mercs I have owned have been good motors.

IMHO I would be asking Merc at what point do we just say uncle and replace the motor?

It’s hard to find a tow boat every time a person wants to go fishing or an outing with the family.

I’m not partial to any brand of motor although I have a 2001 Merc that has treated me very well over the years. I would say it’s as solid as a rock, but I’m using it tonight and don’t want to jinx the trip. )

Thanks for the input. I will be working with Mercury, and will let all know how it shakes out.

I think you’ve been more than patent enough and you’re certainly entitled to ask. But then based on their answer, I’d say be ready to negotiate up, down, sideways.

As a plan B, I’d think about what I’d be willing to pay to make that motor gone. If they won’t replace it outright, would they buy it back if you agree to buy another Merc if you kick in $X (assuming the price has risen) + rigging?

If it were mine, I’d in with Plan A, B, and C and keep working until I get something that sends that motor down the road.
