When I was younger I played guitar and sang. Played in a short lived led zeppelin cover band in junior high. Thinking about buying another guitar and playing again. Just something to stimulate the mind and pass the time.

Anybody here play any musical instruments? Maybe you jam in a band once in a while?

I played the piano for 12 years when I was younger. I was required to. I didn’t care for it even though I was very good at it. My Mother said my talent was too good to go to waste. Played in a few recitals too. When I turned 18, I was permitted to quit and I did just that, the day I turned 18. I was always told that I would regret quitting when I got older.

I don’t regret quitting. It was too time consuming and never got any satisfaction out of it personally.

Played drums, piano since I was 10. Jazz, rock, classical. Played in a few seldom heard of bands around the cities in college. Sold my two drum sets for money towards my first boat 4 years ago. Definitely miss it, but like fishing from my boat a lot more.

I can only sing the blues when I loose a pig at the side of the boat. My lyrics become “colorful “ jester

Did lessons when I was a kid for a short period of time. Was distracted with fishing and didn’t stick with it. Wish now I had. I appreciate those that are musically inclined toast toast toast

Took piano lessons when I was a kid. I might have stuck with it if they had let me play like Pinetop Perkins instead of Bach.

A couple of years ago I bought a harmonica. If I worked harder at it I might be better, but so far I’m entertaining my self.

Alto sax thru grade school, killed it at Xmas w the holiday jingles.

If I ever got back into music had a guy last summer show me some beats he made on the PC and that was pretty fantastic. Fun way to kill some time. That or a banjo.

Took piano lessons from 2nd grade until 8th. My piano teacher fell ill and passed away is the reason I only went until 8th grade. I really didn’t like it but wasnt the worst at playing. Did some remodeling this last year and couldn’t give the piano away. So got the sawsall out and cut it up in the living room. Im 63 so the piano has been around me for along time. There is a piece of cast iron in it that all the wires are connected to. It was hard for two 21 year olds to carry out of my house. I still could play Winter Wonder Land during the holidays.

I played guitar for many years, still do every once and a while. But I don’t do it often any more. Usually after I have a few drinks

Mom’s are the best. They all tell us the nicest words of encouragement. But forcing a kid to play anything is about the worst idea you could have. What a way to force some one to dislike something.
My son plays the drums, I would love to get him to play the piano. He has no interest though.

I wish I would have been forced into piano lessons when I was younger. A lot of great guitar players started off learning piano when they were younger and that is where they picked up the knowledge of music theory. The cool thing about guitar is you don’t need to learn to “read” music or anything like that. Guitar tabs are just numbers and anyone can pick that up. I’m 100% self taught with no music background but really wish I had the piano background that would have been the foundation for my guitar playing.

I wish alot of things as well, but the things I was forced to do I hated. Just like most kids. Guitar isn’t easy, but it is easy to understand. All my favorite guitarist in the metal genre are crazy fast, I wish I played more piano but I don’t.
Knowing how to read and play the piano opens up the door to many many other instruments

I play guitar, 6 & 12, bass, mandolin, and BLUES harmonica. I used to be in a band and even cut a few CD’s. Now I play mostly at church and just around with friends. Out town has an OLE time country hoe down every month where anyone can be on stage and play. If you want to just sit and play along you can. If you want to “feature” you step up to the mic and name your song and what key it is in. Most songs are VERY OLD country so in you know 3 chords you can play about anything. I don’t go often anymore, but the place is always packed with players and a good crowd shows up.

This is probably true for most kids, I hated it at the time, but now I really appreciate it. Once I surpassed my piano teacher’s skill level, I studied pipe organ. I also taught myself guitar to offset the nerdiness of the pipe organ.

Now I can make a good chunk of change with minimal effort by filling in for church services, accompanying school choirs, etc.

This is so so so true! Knowing piano and music theory really opens up many doors of possibilities. I feel like with my lack of knowledge of music theory and being self taught from guitar tabs and youtube, I have plateaued and gone about as far as I can on the guitar without taking the next step and diving into and learning music or taking some sort of lessons. I can strum chords along with about any song and have a good time around a campfire and I’m pretty content with that.

I play guitar, started as an adult and I really enjoy it. I take lessons still and do a BYOB song session/get together thing once a week with a few other folks at the place where I take lessons.

I’d like to get into a jam or something with some other folks that is less formal where people swap songs, jam, etc. It’s the only thing that I have started as an adult that I compare to hunting and fishing in the way that it may be difficult to “find your tribe” so to speak since most other musicians that I know have been doing it for most of their lives.

took 10 years of piano lessons growing up, play sax in junior high, picked up guitar and bass freshman year of highschool. Been playing mostly acoustic guitar lately but was also thinking about picking up a guitar and amp and fiddling around instead of sitting on the couch with the FW.
