Ive got a gmc sierra, ill lock my keys in the truck and use the onstar app or mygmc app to unlock and/or start my truck from miles away. This is mainly while ice fishing or in the boat when i didnt want to risk losing the keys down the hole. I always have my phone with me in those situations, but i dont think this would be a convienient option for your situation.

You must have a pre 2018 truck or are you paying for the app? I loved that app for my 2015 and 2017 Silverados, but GM cheaped out and you cant use it for free starting in 2018 you had to sign up for Onstar. Pissed me off.

I leave a single key in my ignition and just use my remote for the doors. No fob for mine.

Most thieves are just walking around checking for unlocked doors. In my area it is very rare for a window to get broken.

Ive got an 18′ and am reluctant to say i pay for on star. after the free 6 month promo, i asked to cancel, they knocked the price down to $10/ month, i said fine. I cant say its worth it, but peace of mind is worth something.

Do not trust the key pad will open your door just because you know your battery is good. A kid I used to have did leave the keys in the car all the time. One day the keypad didn’t work. Battery was fine. It’s Just keys boys. Take em with you. No big deal. If you can’t manage to not lose your keys down a fishing hole I sure hope you don’t have kids. I’m scratching my head on all the people too lazy to carry keys.

You must be pretty athletic to make that kind of leap. Thanks for your input… waytogo

I have read this entire thread and I have to say I don’t really get it. Don’t all car/trucks have push button start now? Fobs are small, I don’t see that they are that hard to keep in your pocket. Mine goes in my pocket and it never comes out until I take my pants off. There is no way I could ever loose it because I never touch it. Both my F150 and the wife’s Nautilus work the same way. I just take whichever fob is appropriate.

I can’t speak for everyone, but I sometimes leave my keys in my F150 on purpose. Not because I’m too lazy to carry them. At times they are an inconvenience to carry in my pocket and other times I’m simply paranoid about losing it. Same with my mobile phone. It’s just a safer route not to have it when I’m doing some things.

I’ve had 5 Ford vehicles with keypads and none of them have ever failed.

Not necessarily, at least not on Rams.
Everything else you say – X2.

When I purchased my first vehicle with a FOB I was a skeptic, had all the worries – What if the Fob fails, I need a key, blah, blah, blah.

That lasted a about a day. Wouldn’t want it any other way than with a FOB.

I take my keys with me when I’m duck hunting in the North Dakota boonies. Zippered pocket in pants or jacket. No big deal.

Hard to lose your keys or fob if placed in your pants pocket. Do not understand why you would let them or your phone lay where they can go down a hole.
