Do I need a medium moderate for cranks?

I have a 6 foot 10 MH casting rod now I have seen most people like a medium/moderate rod for cranks Can I get by with a MH fast action ? I think it would be more universal? I throw cranks some mostly bass cranks that are shallow or a shad style I normally used MH before and just set the drag a little looser to help absorb shock and not pull the hooks out any thoughts? My thoughts are to have one rod for spinner baits/chatterbaits one for cranks and universal. then one for bass jigs. I throw cranks probably 15% of the time

Are you speaking for casting only? I use a medium light for trolling my cranks.

Casting only and for bass sorry I should have said what I was fishing for.

I would get a medium fast to add to your current mh fast and dedicated jig rod.
A medium fast with fluoro will work well for shallow cranks and many other things. A med mod is a pretty specialized, it wouldn’t be at the top of my list for rebuilding a rod collection.

I would focus on 3 rods to start rebuilding your bass rod collection.

    MH Fast/extra fast action
    M Fast/extra fast action
    Jigging rod

That medium rod will work well for cranks and other applications for the mean time. I do feel that a crankbait specific rod would give you longer cast and help loose less fish. But it is not needed. Having a specialized rod for every application is more from the marketing department. Most anglers will do just fine with a couple of multi-purpose rods. Specialized rods will perform better for crankbaits, frog fishing, drop shot fishing, and punching. But it is not needed. Don’t get me wrong, I have many many specialized rods and love them. But 3 multipurpose rods will get you back on the water.
The major benefit of having a softer/slower action rod for crankbait fishing is when the lure hits an object it will deflect off of it better.

What line do you plan to run? If I use no-stretch super lines, a med or med heavy will lose fish. You need the soft tip to compensate.

I’m less of a bass guy but a Medium Fast is like the swiss army knife of rods to me. Couldn’t imagine not having one in the inventory especially if I already had a Med Heavy.

Medium Heavy Fast will work for crankbaits, and many people prefer that rod for shallow running square bills. I recently got a dedicated crankbait rod that is a medium-heavy moderate action. It really is more suited to crankbait fishing. I have much higher hookup percentages and less fish shake off. The moderate action allows the hookset to be more gradual and less jarring which is better suited to the light wire treble hooks.
But if you wanting an all around rod for bass fishing, your medium heavy fast can do everything adequately.

If you do want one, I have one that I don’t use much (not much of a bass guy).

    It’s a St. Croix Premier, medium/moderate 6’6″ or 7′

    $100??

Right now it has a LH Abu Silver Max on it, $130 for the combo??
