I bought a used truck oct 13th 2017 and bank took title to local dmv to have title transfer done, the gal from the bank did all her stuff got the bank name as lien holder my name on title paid the money to them and returned to bank. The next day I went to the bank for my share of my paperwork and noticed she did not subtract my trade in value! Well heres the good part. I went to local dmv where said transfer was done to correct the paperwork to be told it was already processed! got all paperwork filled out correctly and was told it will take a while for my return! (someone please describe a while to me) 1 month 2 months 3 months WTF!! 4 MONTHS 5 MONTHS I called today they said not till late spring!!!!! WOW Can I send my taxes in in October?

Yep they are screwed up right now. I heard someone purchased $20,000 worth of vehicle tabs for their business and didnt get one set back. Your not the only one that’s for sure.

Extension, and all will be well.

When I got the newer truck last fall DMV was running about 6-8 weeks with stuff, mine was all of that plus some.

Yup, our .gov in action. A brand new $93million computer system needs another $43million to get fixed.

I know a couple people that bought vehicles last fall and still have yet to get there plates.

Exactly I sent my money and tabs for renewal of 8 business vehicles in December. They cashed my check right away and I still do not have tabs. I am waiting for one of my guys to be stopped for expired tabs and see what happens then. Gotta guess it will still be my fault or at least I will spend time and money proving it is not my fault. Got a love the state government. We do a lot of work for the federal government, do not get me started on their flaws!!

I went into the DMV todday to renew my tabs, handed them the paper that came in the mail along with my insurance, paid, and walked out with the new tabs. Total time, 4 minutes. Saw another guy get new plates and tabs right then and there too.

I’ve heard about this debacle at the DMV, but I don’t understand it based on my experience that I had today being so vastly different than what I’ve heard and now read from those who are sending in or doing their renewals online.

So kind of unrelated, but since we’re talking about good decisions our government has made:

In 2005 while in the army I was sent to a training school in Alabama to learn how to fly unmanned aerial vehicles (drones). This was right after Hurricane Katrina. At the airport in Alabama waiting to fly out I ran into a group of Marines and chatted with them. They were called up to assist with hurricane recovery efforts in Louisiana.

They deployed out of North Carolina and flew to Alabama, where I met them. From Alabama they were flying to Tennessee. From Tennessee they were taking a BUS to Louisiana. What?

Renewals should be easy (not sure why kabekonacrazy didn’t just go to the dmv but maybe commercial vehicles are different?), but title transfers have been a real mess.

We got lucky, bought a used car in September and it “only” took til January to get the title.

Scratcher- are you waiting for a title or reimbursement for the overpaid sales tax from the bank’s mistake? Or both? They’re so backed up I’m thinking ANY complication like this is just getting pushed aside. Ugh.

Sorry I forgot to explain that I normally mail mine in. It normally takes less than two weeks to get them and it easy but with the issues in Minnesota right now with their new computer system I made the mistake of mailing mine instead of going into my local DMV office. My bad but it does show they still have issues.

Same experience for me, in and out quick. I did chat with the clerk and brought up that we are thinking of buying a new car this month. She said if you are buying from a large dealer, expect plates within a few weeks. But don’t expect the title for at least six months! Wow!

Went to the DMV last month to get a replacement title I had misplaced. Got the new title in the mail within 2 weeks.

I did a title transfer on a trailer last July 2017. Still have not received the owners card. They tell me the system was never programmed to handle the transfer of perm license tabs. Called last week, they said MAYBE another 2 months.

Bought a beater car in May of 2016. Transferred the title the same day. I didn’t get the title in the mail until Mid-June of 2017…over a year. Luckily they gave me tabs for it in July of 2016…

Until they get the $100+ million dollar system fixed, no title transfers, changes, or lien adding/removing will be happening too quickly. If you go there for Tabs or reprints they can still process quickly as they aren’t dependent on the MNLARS system for that. This has been a huge headache for thousands of Minnesotans, and will continue to be.

The problem is with the massively botched rollout of the new title/registration “MNLARS”. The state IT agency MNIT decided to “insource” this project and develop the MNLARS system internally rather than buy existing software or hire the project.

The initial rollout back in July was a disaster and the system is still not fixed. Even worse, the original budget for the project was something like $65 million, the price tag could easily top $120 million by the time it’s finally working.

It should surprise absolutely no one that despite the massive budget-busting botching of this project, no state employee has been fired as a result of this epic IT fail. Last I heard, several employees connected with the project had been mysteriously assigned to what amounts to house arrest, where they are still on the state payroll but don’t appear to have any clear duties.

I can’t believe more hasn’t been done to investigate MNIT and to hold the employees involved in this botched project accountable. I also want to know if any credible benchmarking was done by looking at the other 49 states who currently have working systems and seeing if the software could just be bought and modified rather than reinventing the $100 million wheel.

Don’t worry, surely they will have it all fixed up by the time we need enhanced IDs in order to fly by October 2018.

Make sure your passport is valid. If you don’t have one, get one.

Went to the DMV today with the left over stubs after mailing them in on December 26 2017, because they were due Feb 28, Plenty of time right, the canceled check and my bank statement showing the check had cleared, a copy of the front of the canceled, cleared check and proof of insurance. Waited in line for 20 minutes to be told I needed a copy of the check that showed the back so they knew it was endorsed and cleared their account. Now how could I mail in a check get a copy on my bank account and have found a way to fraud the system? Well I got the copy of both the front and back of the check from my bank to show them I had indeed paid it and the state cashed my check on Jan 2 2018. After two trips to the DMV and well over an hour of time, a pissed and snotty DMV lady I only got a 60 day tag printed on regular paper we need to put in the window of the vehicles hoping I get the tabs before going thru the whole thing again. Now normally when I mail them in I get everything back in less than 2 weeks not this time. Have to love the State they are screwed up and we have to jump thru hoops to prove we did our job, paid the bill and then take a bunch of lip from a pissed off state employee. If I ran my business this way or treated my state contracts like they treat us I would no longer have a business. Like Tom Petty said it is good to be king!!!!
