Dipsy Diver Questions

I have two dipsy rods my uncle borrowed me and bought two more. The two that were borrowed to me have 20lb mono on them. Before I rig my other two up I thought I would ask the question of what everyone else used for line. Is 20lb sufficient and should I use a snubber or would that have too much stretch?

    Thank you,

    Benn

I will be fishing on Superior with these and I might also try to make a trip or two over to Michigan.

For Sup 20# would work but not ideal. Michigan would be a bit light( unless you are shading coho now) and I would suspect break offs though Dan Keating like a light line presentation.
If you are dead set on mono I would go 30# to be safe. Berkley big game on the 1/4# spool is about $10.
If you run mono you would not need a snubber at the mono has a lot of stretch.

I run 30lb big game on my dipsy rods for mono, and 40lb power pro. Typically I’m running power pro because I’ll achieve greater depth. I use snubbers on both, and I’ve never been broken off.

Fishing on Lake Michigan on our boat we use 50# stealth braid direct to the dipsy with a snubber between the dipsy and the leader to the bait.
