Didn’t see this coming – “2019” legend xtreme discontinued

So I am in quite shock and a little depressed honestly. My tip broke on xtreme (6’3” MXF), I call into St. Croix, thinking this was going to be straight forward. Well it turns out the blue xtreme rods that have been out for the last 5-6 years are done being manufactured. If you have one covet it. The new xtremes start at $660 which is crazy.

The option I was given is to upgrade to the 2020 xtreme for $360 (barf)

Or receive a 6’8” legend elite

I haven’t fished an Elite, I am not a fan of cork I always felt like it dilutes sensitivity, and therefore preferred the weird/ugly handle on the xtreme.

This rod was for vertical jigging and pitching.

I’m open to and really appreciate any advice or feedback to help me make a decision. I’m truly bummed out, I love these rods and knowing they will be nearly untouchable in the price range just sucks :/

I had both my extreme handles replaced with cork Lol! Love the rods. Just needed more grip above the reel seat. I have a few elites too. Imo, the feel is just as good.

I would recommend upgrading to a 6’8″ MXF Legend X (retail is $430), they are very very nice. They have a split grip and the rear grip is a little longer (than other St. Croix rods) to rest your forearm on when vertical jigging and giving you more leverage, which in return probably makes it close/similar to the same length as your 6’3″ from your reel to the tip. I have handled custom rods and other high end rods and I haven’t found any I would trade for my legend X for vertical/snap jigging.

I don’t get the price difference with elite to xtreme. They both use the same blanks but with different reel seat, handle, and guides. The biggest cost difference would be in the guides but they both use Torzite rings.

I personally liked my elite more than my xtreme because of the full cork handle.

I have a couple GLX rods, and a couple legend xtreme’s. I use them for different techniques, and they are both outstanding rods. My favorite rod is a GLX HS9000 for rigging. I haven’t tried anything else as good for rigging.

I have a few Legend elite’s. To me they are one of the best rods out there in their price point. I’ve never fished the legend Xtreme but don’t know how it could be much if any better than the Elite. I think the 5″ inches extra would be a plus as well for a jigging.

Had an Avid Ice rod break on me on literally the first fish I set the hook on. Was fishing next to the manager of the store I bought it at.
Gave the rod to him to give to the rep, and being at the end of the ice season, St Croix had discontinued the Avids.
Rep said the same thing, they wouldn’t warranty it, but I could upgrade to the POS legend rod with the spring bobber for $20 more. I took one with manager discount, which broke eventually.
Last, and only St Croix rods I have purchased. Have only used them for ice fishing.
I’ve been a Loomis guy for open water rods for 25 years and never had an issue.

Hold on here, are you saying there are better rods out there then the Cabelas Prodigy Rod? Yeah right!

Bummer about the xtreme. I always thought part of the allure for buying a st croix Rod was the lifetime and great warrant???
