Dewalt and Lazer Auger Float

I am thinking of purchasing a Lazer Auger to use with my Dewalt drill. My main concern is the auger falling out of the chuck and sinking. For those that use this auger, do you use anything to keep it from sinking?

    Thanks.

One option would be to cut a circle pattern out of wood or thin plastic that is larger diameter than the auger and make it so that it cannot slip past the drill chuck adapter

Cut out bottom of 5 gallon bucket and I hold mine on with hose clamps

I made an 8.5″ plastic disk out of 1/8″ black UHMW. Looks nice and works well.

I also made an adjustable adapter for thicker ice and when drilling in the house. Works very well. Good luck. You’ll love it.

I’ll try to post some pics today of the whole set up.

Walmart, UHMW cutting board, saw out an appropriate sized disk, attach it to the auger.

If you are using a 7″ or 6″ bit and are lazy, Strikemaster now makes a piece that snaps right on their drill attachment that works good. I haven’t had issues with their seemingly “cheap” cast drill attachment, but I have heard gripes about it. So take that for what its worth.

Slide a foam pool noodle onto the shaft. That is kind of what K drill does.

The K-drill is quite a bit lighter in weight. How much Foam does it take to float a steel auger? The OP did not indicate what diameter he is using.

Sorry, I will be going with the 8″. Evan P, thanks for the link. I can make that easy enough.

One quick question for anyone with a 6″. Do you find the hole to be to small with float in the hole for the flasher? I bought my son a Helix 7 Ice unit that has a float for transducer. I use a Marcum.

I like my 8″ hole but I think a 6″ would be quicker and easier on the drill.

Again, thank you for the replies. Buying the auger tomorrow.

I have used a 6″ Lazer for 3 or 4 years now. It is much faster when drilling a lot of holes, and much easier on the drill. I have never had an issue with my Vexilar float in a 6″ hole nor have i ever had a problem getting any fish up the hole.
