Devils Lake Wind Question

A buddy and I are running out to Devils on a spur of the moment trip this weekend, looking at the forecast it looks like 25mph on Friday and 22mph on Saturday. Both days it will be blowing from the south.

We had intended to start by pulling spinners along the golden highway, not sure if that will be practical or not with those winds.

Where is the best place to launch with a south wind? Possibly pull spinners or cranks in wind protected bays? Or slip bobbers on wind blown points?

Any and all advice is greatly appreciated!

When it got windy, we would anchor up in the trees and vertical jig. That kind of wind will make it tough fishing.

That kind of wind is going to be tough at Devils Lake and you may want to reconsider. It’ll be pretty rough and maybe even a bit unsafe, especially with 25 mph winds. I’m going there this weekend myself but I’m waiting until the wind dies down on Sunday.

Thanks for the feedback, our fishing window is pretty much limited to Friday afternoon and Saturday so I think we are looking at other options now. Specifically Lake Oahe near Mobridge or Chequamegon Bay.

Put in at the casino or also I believe there is landing on the south end of Black Tiger bay. With that heavy of winds these might be your only real choices. You could also put in at the north end of Creel bay and fish the east side but all depends on the exact wind direction. Good luck and be safe. Lots of stuff closer to the surface or sticking out of the water this year compared to years in the past.
