After watching this weeks show it really got me excited for this coming weekend (The GF and I are headed to Woodlands Resort and have one of their package deals). Now I’ve never fished Devils before and after talking to Woodlands they said they have most of their “perch” houses out in 40+ fow. Once they said that I instantly thought of Swish Rods and pencil weights with small jigs. Now I watch lots of online videos and see people fishing shallow in the trees and deeper as well, now for a Devils Lake newbie does anyone have any tips, tricks or pointers? I’m obviously not looking for exact spots or anything just want to have fun and what not. Also we will be arriving on Friday and they said I can obviously go out fishing that afternoon if I like, I dont have an atv or snowmobile, is there anywhere near Woodlands in Creel Bay I can quickly get to?

    Thanks yall

I thank the hosts for highlighting selective harvest on Perch. It is so sad to see good Perch lakes cleaned out so fast. It is now some kind of sin to fillet a 6lb Walleye, but a cleaning table full of 14″ egg-laden Perch is celebrated.

    Good luck Brian
We have great luck with Jalapeno jigs if they want small. I also use jigging raps almost all the time up there both eyes and perch. Just have to keep trying things until you find something they like. Buckshots with minnow heads or larve tipped on them. I use floro line for the deeper fishing. Last year we were in 40 plus and the year before we caught them in 10ft in brush.

Good luck and let us know how you do. I have to wait till March 9th and just itching for some sumo perch.

I went out of Woodlands the 17th-19th this month and did great. At that time, Kyle has his perch houses in 40+FOW. I believe they moved a couple of them to 27-30′ after we left. We went out of portables and didn’t venture much deeper than 30′. 17-20 in the morning and evening and slid off the finger we were fishing in the afternoon into about 27′. We consistently caught perch all day long.

I cannot say enough good things about what Kyle did with Woodland Resort. It is a beautiful place with awesome staff, I cannot wait to go back up there again.

We just made the trip back yesterday. Fished the 25th through the 28th. Had decent luck for perch by Military Point right out of Creel Bay in 35 FOW. Moved over by the Towers on Jeromes Bar fished 16-25 FOW and also had great success on walleye from 4:30 in the afternoon to half hour after sunset all 3 evenings. East Lake and Black Tiger Bay is the place to be if you want to catch numbers of perch as of this last weekend. Seen 5 different groups coming in the fish station with buckets full of perch with most averaging 12″ or better. Total for fish was 87 walleye and 64 perch between 9 guys and 3 days of fishing.

Thanks. Thats what I have received for an answer. My guide said it was making ice again since Sunday. He said it was going to be an iffy weekend for truck traffic. Going to be out on the ice having a great time all weekend into Monday. Was hoping for 40s but 57 is crazy warm. Good Luck this weekend

Due to warm weather coming we are going to bring the 4 wheelers along. Do we need a trail pass or any other sticker to ride on the lake? Thanks

No trail pass needed for anywhere on the lake that I have ever heard of. Have a great trip!
