Detroit River rod questions

I am taking my boat with 2 guys(all 3 DR rookies) and going with another pair in their boat that have been to DR the last 3 Aprils. They have had great luck. This is sort of a bucket list trip for me. I have a Avid 6′-6″ medium fast tip spinning rod. I am wanting to buy another jigging rod. I do fish pool 4 once or twice a year and jig a little at LOW when muskie fishing. Is my 6′-6″ too long? Thinking of getting a Avid 6′ medium or a 6′-3″ medium, or a Eyecon 6′-3″ medium. Or should I be trying to find a quality medium heavy 6′ to 6′-3″ rod for fishing the 5/8 to 1 oz jigs that I am told are used alot at DR? Thanks.

Im finding myself liking x-fast tips more and more. Has the cushion for the fish not to feel you when bit, but on hookset the rod goes right into the backbone which has led to more hookups IMO. Bonus I can run my mono/copolymer with no worries on weaker hooksets, and don’t have to deal with leaders of any sort.

A medium rod will work with those jig sizes, but a lighter MH combo might help with wrist fatigue in the long run, if its a concern. So many freakin rods out there and they are all slightly different in regards to action and power. I always felt the Shimano line was lighter in the MH category, a 7’2″ compre or convergence would fit the bill pretty nice, and handle those 10# hogs better than a med. fast Avid will. I was never impressed with my Avid so maybe im biased.

Length is a personal preference. I like 6’8″ MLXF rods for light jigs and MXF for heavier jigs. I think MH would be overkill.

If weather breaks I am going next week to fish the western shoreline and such. First rods I’ll grab are my 6.6 medium action rods. If I can get away with lighter jigs, the MLXF 6’9″ rods. Agree, nothing over a medium rod would be of first choice for me.

Was there last year. Used 6’6″ mxf and 1/2 oz. jig & plastic almost exclusively. Tried 5/8 oz. was just to heavy for my taste. Saw lots of guys fishing 3/4. Bring plenty of jigs some areas gobble them up. By the way the fishing was fantastic. I’m heading over the 12th. Be prepared there could be 1000 or more boats on the river.
