Looking to go to Detroit lakes area for the first time next weekend (Dec. 19) to chase crappie and bluegill. Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks!

I can’t speak to ice conditions, But I would start with Height of Land for multi-specie action, Little McDonald for crappie, Sallie/Melissa for panfish and pike and dusk walleye action. LakeFinder is an incredibly useful tool for finding smaller lakes with impressive populations of fish. A lot of water that should hold hungry fish if you do the homework.

Two lakes that come to mind in that area for panfish are Lake Lida and Star lake. Both have a excellent population of nice crappies and sunfish.

Not sure how you’re planning to get around but just a heads up that some of the bigger/deeper OTC lakes (a couple mentioned in this thread) just capped this week.

Willing to pay cash to someone who can put us on big crappie. Don’t want to be guided, just put on fish.

Talk to Trevor Johnson @ Vacationland Resort, Trevor is on this site, or stop in at Bens Bait Shop in Battle Lake.
