Desperately Seeking Mooring Cover

    Heyo fellow Lund owners,

I’ve got a slip this year and need a cover for my 2010 Lund Alaskan 1600ss. Something to keep the sun and rain out while it sits. I’ve tried an online cover but it didn’t even come close to fitting (the stern.)

Does anyone have a success story finding how to cover something like an Alaskan?

Maybe look into a custom made cover. I had one done at Wyoming canvas this year. Fits perfect!

Yep only way to go is custom. More $$ but worth it in the end.

I’m not sure that’s necessarily true. Also there’s price vs value. Custom may be more expensive (maybe), but the value is much higher.

Some canvas places in the Citys are crazy high, but I’ve had several covers made at Lakes Area Custom Canvas in Chisago. The’ve done both a new mooring cover and they have repaired canvas.

The fit is excellent, you can use material that is much higher quality than any commercial pre-fab I’ve ever seen, and you can do options like quick entry zippers or trolling motor covers that would never be available on a pre-fab. You can get supports anywhere you want in a custom canvas.

Finally, once you have one made, should replacement be necessary, you have the perfect pattern. I’ve got a mooring cover that is 10 years old, so replacement isn’t a frequent deal, but when necessary you’ve got a head start.

Thanks for the replies! So I phoned up my local Lund dealer and they do indeed make a mooring cover for the Alaskan 1600ss. $400. The funny thing is, they weren’t able to tell me how it attached. So we’ll see….

I wish Harris Canvas was still open in Minneapolis. They were great and the prices were VERY reasonable.

Hi all, wanted to close the loop on this one.

So my mooring cover came in. Does it look like its worth $400 plus shipping??? Meh…maybe $300. It’s very heavy plastic or nylon. Very heavy and sturdy. It has a rope sew all around the hem, but meets in the rear and you can’t really tighten in down once it’s in the water. There is some elastic in the rear corners and it does include a motor cover with elastic all in one piece. Corners are re-enforced and there is a soft batting on the inside that would go over your console. Unfortunately I have a bow-mounted trolling motor and the cover does not account for this extra space. Without the trolling motor, the Lund mooring cover would have fit perfectly. Still – can’t tighten it down either way because the ropes come out in the back under the engine which you can’t reach. Conclusion – fits great with no bow mount motor. Over Priced.

Return it and go custom. Get something that works 100% the first time. You won’t regret it.

If you need to cover your boat while moored then a custom snap on cover is the best choice. Easy on, tight fit that eliminates pooling of rainwater that will cause collapse or tearing of the cover.

If you have a cover that fastens to the trailer it cannot be used in the water. If it just cinches with a drawstring then it will not fit tight and will pool water.
