Depth Range Shading

How do you use depth range shading on your maps? I’ve thought about setting a default color scheme to use for all lakes so you can see the basic layout of the lake without looking at contour lines at all. I’ve also thought of just marking the range I’m trying to fish with a bright color and leaving the rest the default color/shading. What do you find useful and is there some use I’m not thinking of?

I immediately mark 1-3ft bright red so I know that’s danger areas and depending on the lake and time of season I usually set up a 3-5ft range of depth that I’m looking to target in a bright green color for example I fish leech on opener and I highlight 6-10ft of water green on opener and I adjust later to deeper as water conditions change etc.

I picked 8′ and set it to 2′ either side of it, so I now have Green showing in 6-8′. I have red showing in 1-3′. It’s really nice to adjust that when I am on a lake that I want to target a certain depth. It really highlights where the flats are.

Such a versatile feature that I’m changing all the time.

Usually in highlighting the depth im targeting.

I typically highlight <8′ for shallow highlight.

If looking for sharp breaks… Select a 10′ range and look for the areas on the map with the narrowest band of green.

Looking for flats… Look for the broadest areas in that range.

Hooles, humps, points, saddles, etc etc.

    I’m changing highlight depths frequently!!!

I usually have 0 to 5 feet in red. On unfamiliar water, when I’m running from spot to spot, I set the green to 8 +/- 3. That way I have 0 to 11 highlighted and feel pretty comfortable if I stay away from the colored ranges. (That’s with Lakemaster in 1-foot contours.) When I’m in fishing mode, I change things to meet my needs.
