Wife got a deal on some of the small cutie oranges and we can’t eat them all before they go bad so I was going to try dehydrating them. I peeled 6-8 of them and broke them into sections and put them in the dehydrator last night for 5 hours at 125 degrees. I had to pull them at 11pm so I could go to bed, but they weren’t done. Anyone know how long it takes to dehydrate them? I’m going to put them back in when I get home today. Google said 2-12 hours so that really narrowed it down whistling

You might try to cut them crosswise to open up the sections. The sections are designed to hold in moisture and will hinder a quick drying process.

    This is very true.
Let us know how they turn out. I have dried navel oranges but they were not so tasty. I would think clemintines would be better.

The health nut person in me has got to ask, by dehydrating them are you essentially taking away a lot of the nutritious value of the fruit?

I don’t really care, my wife makes me eat fruit, I am just trying to make it easier on myself jester That being said, I doubt it, just removing the water I would guess.

I dried them for 5 more hours last night and they still aren’t ready. This is just an experiment, but I am not sure I’ll do it again unless I can run them for a 12 hours plus straight period.

Do what I do. I dug through our christmas decoration bins, and found a christmas light timer. I plug the timer into the outlet, then plug the dehydrator into that. I would imagine oranges are probably closer to 7-8 hours, they’re pretty much all water.
