Deertracker's 2017 Food Plots

Finally was able to make the truck north a few days ago. I fertilized 3 clover plots and disced my future brassica plot. I then planted Grouse’s fall mix blend in there to help with weeds. I also planted extra forage pees in with it because they were lying around. I usually over seed any bare spots in my clover spots but guess I gave everything I had left away for others to try. One of the other guys disced up the areas that will be corn and beans. Should be planted in a few weeks. Here are a few pics.

Glamour pic of one of the clover plots. Deer hammered them over the winter.

Looking good!! I can almost smell the diesel burning. That’s a big @ss disc for a food plot, but go big or go home toast

My, what a large disc you have DT. whistling whistling

    That’s what she said.

Nice clover plot. You guys up north/west must not have gotten the rain we got. My plots are still a freaking mudbog. It was just drying out enough 2 weeks ago that I was 1-3 good days away from planting up by Hinckley. And then it’s been constant rain ever since. I was going to go up Sunday, but there was no point.

There are a few spots still to wet to get into but was told it had been a little dry recently. That is the bigger disc. There is a smaller one but it is heavier and digs more.

According to Farm Logs I have gotten rain on my new seed the last few days. Should have a good start.

If you and I take Grouse’s rain for the next several weeks he might be able to plant this year waytogo

Well here it is July 16th and I have yet to get up north an plant my brassicas. I always have them in by July 1st but haven’t had time to make the 4 hour trek north. Not a good plotting year for me this year…. crazy

You going to be able to get up there soon?

I just planted mine a week ago, which was a few days later than I’d have liked. I got a little rain on them after planting, but could use more.

If you can’t plant brassicas this year, no biggie. Put down a grain mix sometime in August. I had a plot of my All Fall blend, which is red clover, oats, rye, and rapeseed last year and they kept it mowed like a putting green. It was funny because they would eat brassicas and then stroll across to the grain plot to snack like it was some kind of dessert bar.

Rye and oats stand up nice as well, so if it snows a little they are still sticking up above it.

Based on past years I missed the mark for brassicas this year. My goal is always July 1st. Ugh!
