What breed is that? Heads not really shaped like a whitetail. Kinda cool looking though!

March 4, 2004 at 9:44 pm #2430I’m assuming Whitetail, but it does have a really long snout/nose..
Don’t know where it was shot either..

March 5, 2004 at 2:09 am #2434i had a bit of time on my hands , so i did a little diggin on this guy……
from what i could find, this particular deer is a melanistic whitetail shot somewhere in texas…..apparently they are much rarer (is that a word) than albinos…..this deer is obviously much darker than most would be.
quite the speciamen
here’s an article from North American Whitetail on Melanistic Deer

You guys beat me to it. It looks just like a calf head. Look at how the ears locate to the head. It just isn’t right……

Guys……………black deer DO exist. Before we go off on the hoax, I want to ask you how many of you have fed calves from the nipple bucket? That nose is TOOOOO narrow for a calf and they only get wider with age. It’s also TOOOO long. It’s also missing the famous “cow brow”.Go back and look through the various deer pics in this forum and notice how “the dead” have verying degrees of ear placement during pictures.
Looking at the WHOLE picture, there’s no room to sneak a calf in there. You can see where the neck bends to meet the shoulders, which are connected to a cavity stretching skyward. It all fits by proportion and I can’t find any errors to the background or focus of anything. I think, at worst, we have a painted/dyed deer. But any farm boy oughta know that ain’t no calf. The snout, while even strange for a whitetail, is equally strange for a cow.
There’s even “stray” tail hair stuck to it’s back. You won’t find that on a cow!
If I’m being had…………..I’ll gladly be the fool but I’ve got enough farm time to know that ain’t no cow.
I think it’s a legit pic. Too much of it adds up. It’s too complete.
And………………for crying out loud………… even calves get the “tuft hump” where the horns are going to grow! Where’s that? Take way the antlers and you have what is clearly not that of a cow.
You know…….just dawned on me that Boyd Emerson, by best friends dad, has a whitetail buck shoulder mount, who’s head looks more like a cow than a deer. They do exist.

March 10, 2004 at 9:25 pm #2465This isn’t a once in a lifetime deer, rare to the point where you would be a millionare for shooting such a specimen. Uncommon..Maybe. I agree w/Kid. Take a good hard look at that picture, It is too complete. There are NO VISIBLE signs of tampering what-so-ever…..If i’m wrong..so be it. I’ll say what I say here at work:
“Until I see solid Documentation on it……..” lol

MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!
Just kidding.
Something just isn’t right with the picture. And hey, when you look at Star Trek and Star Wars, let alone Saving Private Ryan, you can do alot with pictures to make them what you want………
However, on the contrary of what I’m saying……..My first Archery buck has ears the size of Dumbo, a long, skinny nose, and big eye brows. He also has about 5 whiskers, that are about 5 to 6 inches long coming out of his chin. Yes, it sounds like a spoof, but if I had a digital camera, I would take a picture. I had the head mounted because of the oddity and the rack is actually quite nice!
