Just curious to see if anyone’s still stalking that trophy now that winter has set in?

Anyone going out for the WI T-Zone hunt this weekend?

I am going tomorrow. Got an area to go to that isn’t T zone. I have noticed that the does must be coming around again. Had two bucks behind the house tonight chasing a doe around. Going to give it a try. We are going to do some small drives. To dang cold to sit longer than half hour or so.

My absolute favorite time of the year to bow hunt kid!! The late rut will kick in soon and the deer have to feed and move a lot more to stay warm.

I’ve shot many of my bigger bucks in December.

This is a poor pic of last years Dec bow 9pt whitetail ….I lost my good pics somehow, now I save em on CDs.

I still have a buck tag to fill. I’ll get into my white coveralls and sneek around the woods on Sunday. I’ve had some of the most fun bow hunting with snow on the ground in December. If the snow is quite you can get incredibly close. One of my most memorible hunts was stalking up to about 10 yards from a group of does and fawns and none of them having a clue I has there. No kills but the softly falling snow and the close contact was fantastic. Hoping to get some close contact soon as Christmas vacation will let me hunt hard through the end of the MN bow season (Dec 31).

Hi Ken, Yep I will still be on the hunt and may even get out tomorrow evening for a little while. How about you are you still planning on getting out. I still have some stands in the woods and I’m going to start using a new blind I bought duing the gun season. I had turkeys walk right past me (less then 10 feet) away without knowing anything was up. Not only does it hide you and it keeps you warmer. I’m hoping to get some photo’s from it of some close up wildlife. I think I will set up about 15 yards off a major trail leading to a feeding area and see what happens.Anyone else use blinds? I used to make them in the fall out of next years firewood but got tired of stacking it twice. I’ve had deer walk right past the cord wood blind that I could have reached out and touched. I have a week off after Christmas and plan on doing some hunting and ice fishing Steve

Oh yeah, till the season is closed…Did some t-zone hunting this weekend my buddys brother shot a big doe havent seen anything until right at closing time…the second rut cycle is definately going still had a hot doe move into the area the other night and seen 4 bucks within no time, but ill have to save them for bowhunting. the deer are just mauling down our standing corn right now, but they aren’t moving until after dark…so its tough to get a crack at anything…love late season my favorite time of the year.

My son and I got out this afternoon. He was on stand and I walked through the woods with my whites on. I didn’t see anything until last light when I noticed a buck in a picked bean field. I was able to stalk within 40 yards but didn’t have a good opportunity for a shot as the wind was howling pretty bad. No kill but still a great hunt.

My trail cam supports what I found this weekend…………..they’ve all gone nocturnal in my area! I couldn’t BUY a fresh track! Light snow to provide solid indicators for both days. Wake up, stand…………get impatient………..go scouting………..nothing but snowed in tracks from over night or earlier………go back to stand……..nothing new until the next morning.

I did find 2 active srapes so there’s good buck activity but none have been captured by the cam. Only got a couple weeks left and very little time to actually pursue them but if I get a chance, I will.

Thanks for the replies guys! It felt awful lonely outthere this weekend!…………….I know……….some of us dig that but I like hunting “gangs” or “partners” to share the stories with. I knew I could count on you guys for some actions, plans, and updates! Steve…………..maybe we can “gang” up some next season? This one just got away from me.

Late season is one of my favorite times….but seems like most of the deer are walkin around on pins an needles after gun hunting..But its still a blast seeing them…And most of the does are startin to yard up…so most of the times you see no does….or you see 4,5,6+…Like rookie said the 2nd rut should be kickin in…an the does that werent breed in the first 2 cycles will come into estrus one last time..If they are breed sucesfully they wont have there fawns till late July or early August…Deer are def. nocturnal right now though….

I ended up shooting a big doe on Saturday. Got a bunch of guys together and did some driving on some public land. Saw a bunch of deer, no bucks though. The deer seemed pretty relaxed. Fun hunting in about 8 inches of fresh snow. Nothing beats bow hunting in December.
