Front shoulder joint? I process my own deer and they don’t have a front shoulder joint……….it’s all muscle………no ball and socket like the hind end.

Neither here nor there, bone is bone…………..but I’ve seen deer escape from shoulder shots before. I think it’s more a fluke than repeating occurance and maybe that one hit was a bad bullet?

I don’t know, all I know is lots of bone fragments, loose “twists easily” front leg, and very very little damage to the organs behind.

May have been a bad bullet, or just a real bad perfect angle shot to blow up. Either way, got me a bit worried about ballistic tips, and what would happen if a trophy of a lifetime came out and only gave a tough angling shot.

Still have one more day of bowhunting. Will be hunting around Owen, unit 27. Taking my sisters kid out for the first time, went with me last year, just didn’t carry a gun. Shot a nice 8 point with him in the stand, needless to say he probably isn’t sleeping much this week. Hunting with a Remington .243, leaves most of the meat on the bone after the shot. Good luck y’all!!

    Flick:

Yeah, most people do it down around us in Fountain City too. Some people do it to different degrees though (like no small bucks but the farmers want deer gone so they end up taking 7-8 button bucks, don’t get the point in that but oh well). There is some good deer around here. Maybe this year is the year one walks past me!!!

I think it works, and works very well, if you can get enough land doing it. If you have 200-300 acres surrounded by guys who don’t do it, it won’t work so well.

Is the land in your area still mostly family owned kind of farms, or alot of people from out of the area that buy up big chunks of land?

I wish there was alot less publicity about the Buffalo County bucks. Land prices now, OUCH if you want to buy!!!

Looks like we may get some badly needed snow for this year’s opener!!! I haven’t had useable snow in a LONG time to I’m looking forward to it………….if Mr. Weatherman is correct about this.

Hooks? You out there buddy? You on this one?

lot of land is owned by people out of state and some farmers still have their land. The thing is that when time got tough for the small farmers, land price was good so they just started selling their land in chunks, some 40 acres and some are just scattered, really makes it hard to find line fences and that now, but that is what it has come to.
