How many of you out there are fired up for the opener? I can’t wait for saturday. Went out & shot the guns today, really got the blood pumping.

Where will everybody be hunting? I will be sticking around home again this year hunting in unit 22A.

Good luck to all you WI hunters this weekend, and good luck to all of the MN 3B hunters this weekend.
Remember to take you cameras along and take those pics before you field dress your deer

I’ll be sitting in my treestand at the end of the pencil. lol Just to the left of my stand is an unpicked cornfield. Do you think the deer will be headin there opening morning?
Unit 60A…..on the right side of the picture you can see Ellsworth Wi. city limits. This is shotgun only land. Good luck everybody. My camera will be in the truck also.

What the heck Zimmy? That is where I am hunting this weekend. LOL Seriously, I can’t wait to get together and renew some friendships with the guys I only see this time of the year.

Can’t wait till saturday. The fever definitely has struck. I will be hunting in unit 9, near the hayward area. looks like it is going to be warm again this year unless we get some colder weather soon. anybody been out bowhunting lately, are the bucks still moving? I was out two weekends ago near hudson and saw three bucks, an eight, a six, and a fork, all chasing the same doe. she looked awfully tired. well good luck to everybody and have a safe hunt.

    Flick:

Just don’t hit a serious bone with those ballistic tips, or they may not penetrate!! Hit one a couple of years ago square in the front shoulder joint with a 150 grain from an 06, blew up the joint, but did little to no damage to the vitals beyond that. Got him again before he got up fully, but was shocked at how the bullet exploded and didn’t penetrate. Last year I used Hornady SST’s, which are similar. Were still explosive, but seemed a bit better constructed. Couldn’t find the Hornady’s this year so I am using the Remingotn Accutip, which looks just liek the Hornday in construction. Also stepping up to a 165 grain hoping for more penetration.

My buddy uses Barnes X bullets, and swears they are the best thing ever invented. Aside from guys that can’t get them to shoot accurately, I don’t think I have ever heard a complaint on their terminal performance. I may try some next year.

    Ballistic tipped 7mm ammo!! WOW

My wife’s uncle shot those. They make a mess. With a round like that even a grazing shot is lethal.

I’ll stick to my little 250-3000 savage.

I use Barnes X slugs. Exceptional accuracy over 100 yds, and LOTS of knockdown power. Looking forward to WI too! I’ll be out near River Falls.

I used ballistic tips 2 yrs ago in a 7mm-08. Shot a doe between neck and shoulder quartering away and went thru far shoulder. I threw away almost the whole front of the deer. never again!

I’ll be right here in my backyard (Dunnville Bottoms) near the Bullfrog Fish Farm. I’ll be using an old 12 gauge JC Higgens. I had the barrel shortend and had rifle sites mounted on it. I spent 50 bucks on the original gun back in about 78 or so. I have shot a lot of deer with it. I have stands overlooking some really heavy brush. I generally shoot at 20-40 yards and that 12 gauge packs a wallup at that range. Anyone else going to be around this neck of the woods. About 5 miles south of Downsville or 11 miles south of Menomonie.Steve

Yep….Buffalo County for me too. I will on the other side of Flick. When he misses it WILL stop right next to me, not because the deer is tired…….but it will be taking a very long dirt nap.
