Had the opportunity to hunt with my 13 year old son this year. No luck on Sat or Sun. I took him out after school today and just sat in a ground blind. We were there for about 20 min. when a nice buck came walking out into the clearing. I was sitting right behind him when he raised his shotgun and fired. My sons first dear it might not be a wall hanger, but a trophy in any Dads book.

November 11, 2003 at 8:37 pm #1356I remember the first time my boy shot his first deer. He was in another part of the timber and i told him that if he shot one come and get me. He came walking down a deer trail and found me, He said dad i shot a buck, i said a buck! he said yes, i said very big? he said a four pointer. i went and seen it And i was a happy father, i was pretty proud of my boy and still am. Its nice when they get thier first deer, i’ve still got the casing. Its things like this that dads keep and remember.

November 11, 2003 at 9:28 pm #1358Congratulations to your son on his first deer. Although it wasnt too long ago, I still remember the feeling I had when I killed my first deer and I doubt I’ll ever forget it. Now that he’s got his first one, he’ll be hooked on the sport forever…I know I love it now. Tell him to keep up the good work.

November 11, 2003 at 9:38 pm #1359When I was 14, dad was there when I got my first deer (a doe) and he was also there, 3 days later when I got my firt buck (BIG 8 pointer).
Now it looks as though this will be his last year, at the young age of 79, so I plan on spending the whole time with him, so I can be there for his last deer.

November 12, 2003 at 2:01 pm #1372Congrats to him on a great job. My son is 11 so I have all that to look forward too. My Dad has passed but the memories are still there. Part of his ashes were scattered near the old deer shack and I stop and visit every year. This year we will be adding the ashes of another old friend. Shooting deer is a very small part of the hunting experience.

November 12, 2003 at 3:33 pm #1366Yea, I’ll give my pop a lot of credit for being wise……He has told me the past five years, that “this is the last year”. So, in turn, I work my butt off to get him his deer. Then at the end of the season, he always says “well, maybe one more year!”
It has been great, but this year, I’m quite sure, will be his last. For 79, he is as strong as an ox and healthy as can be, but he is slowing down a bit. This year, we have me, my brother, and there are 3 grandkids all going. It will be very memorable!
