I was at the farm this weekend and took a stroll to see hwo the critters were holding up. I was amazed at the amount of deer beds I found. I covered about half of the 240 acres and found over 300 beds. There were areas that had over 40 beds in a 10 yard circle. I found 3 of these plus many other scattered beds. I also found one yote kill of a 1.5 year old 6 point and one tiny nubbin buck that had died. I had seen this little guy all fall long while hunting. He was always alone and very small. No dead turkey at all. There is an unbelievable amount of sign in our woods. I am pretty sure the deer are using it for a wintering grounds. This is way more sign than I have ever seen in the past. I did see live deer on several occasions and they looked very healthy. Also saw turkey, grouse, swans, geese moving around welcoming spring. It was very good to see it all. Heading back next weekend to look over the other half of the farm, maybe shoot a yote or two and get started on next years firewood supply.

Glad to hear that they are holding up well. Another few weeks and they can start to recover from what has been a rather tough winter season. The word I am hearing from my buddies in my deer hunting area is not as good. Lots of dead deer being found and the few sightings of live deer are that they are looking real rough. Hope it is not as bad as I’ve been hearing from them.

Went out and checked on my feeder this past Saturday and I saw lots of sign too. Even 8 deer were staring at me as I put another 100 lbs in it. Crossing fingers the winter lets up soon
