The centrifugal clutch is engaging either because the retraction springs are not fully retracting or weak. Or your idling way to high Its possible something is lodged in the way of retraction.

Also, “a little blade rotation” is not normal.

    Matt,
So how do I fix it? Could it be that because it’s the first time it’s been started all year? I don’t want to cause any damage, it’s only a 2 year old 10 inch. It doesn’t seem to be idling too high either. Thanks

Quite honestly I do not know the exact procedure for fixing it. If it was me, I’d be ripping the clutch housing apart just looking for why the clutch was slightly engaged.
However I cannot give that advice to the general public for fear of being completely out of line.

Boy, I know what you mean! Thanks anyways Matt, trust me, taking things apart will only make things worse for me! I think I’ll call Strikemaster.

Now that I think about it, A completely broken spring in the centrifugal clutch would cause it to act exactly as you describe.

Let us know how it goes and what happened

Same thing was happening to me last winter, had to bring it into a small engine repair shop to replace the clutch. My auger is a relic, so yours may not have to be replaced. Just thought it may give you a better idea of how to handle the problem.

Maybe by setting not used all summer there a little rust on the clutch drum and making it engage. If we had some ice you coud run it and it may clear up and work right.
    Just my 2 cents

I have to agree with jimfish. If it was doing it last year auger turning at an idle which it should not do. Then either the idle is to fast or a spring in the clutch could be broke or weak. My guess being that new the idle is too high or rust.

My old MagIII does that every year clears up after the first hole. like jimfish said I think it’s just rust or dirt on the clutch because the idle does not change but after you run with some resistance it’s all good.
it will do it sometimes if I have it outside when its really cold like -20 but after a few holes it stops

I don’t have to worry about it this year though I have a new Jiffy Stealth STX Pro on the way
