Hey guys just wanted to get some input on the age of these two bucks. The first two pictures are from a ten pointer that was checking a scrape this morning, but he didn’t come by this afternoon. I aged him at 4.5. The second two pictures are of a nine pointer and looking at his rack he looks like a young deer but after seeing his body and face I aged him at 5.5 or older just bad genetics. Just wanted to see some of your input. Definitely looking forward to spending 24 hours in the tree Saturday and Sunday.

    Thanks, Jordan

both are mature deer.. it is fairly easy to age deer on the hoof from fawns to 3.5 but it is a guesss after that unless you have watched the deer for years..

    hope ya knock one down

After spending some time with biologists on a farm that has been managed for 30 years i’ve found it’s really a crap shoot aging deer on the hoof when they are mature. Genetics, diet, lifestyle, all that stuff plays a role and deer could look different.

For example I had a buck which I thought was 4 1/2 years old which I harvested this year, I had trail cam pictures of him last year and was pretty sure he was 3 1/2 based on body size rack etc. When I got him back from the teeth testing lab, he turned about to be 6 1/2.

All I could say is he is a mature deer, the body size isn’t indicative of a crazy old deer, back sagging but mature.
