I took the weekend and after seeing the dreary, cool wet weather, I’m not heart broken. For those that hunted, how was the movement?

All in all it was a pretty slow weekend. Went down by the Dells area of WI for the weekend. Most of the movement was after dark as we checked our cameras on sunday. The usual giant suspects showing up from 2-4 A.M. on all the cameras.

As for daytime movement a ton of baskets and about 20 does for the weekend. No Mr. October though! The neighbor drilled a 140 class 8pt we had pictures of on a nearby camera, he said the woods were alive on saturday night. A crazy amount of action, not for us though!

Friday night was awesome! Couldn’t hunt Sat, and tonight was a waste of time.

Our section was solid corn this year except for one small 40 acres piece. Thursday and Friday they harvested all of the corn except for one small ~30 piece (400+ acres taken out). I sat a pinch point between bed and food against the last remaining corn. Had my #2 buck walk out at 5:10 at 100 yards and was working my way till the chisel plow came around the bend and chased him off. Had my #1 buck walk past at 6:15 at 32 yards between the trees and remaining corn. This was 6-7 yards onto the neighbors land and we obviously do not have shooting lanes cut to that side of the pinch. I drew on him and followed him hoping he would angle in and make it onto ours. Unfortunately he did not cut into the trees/our land until he was 40+ or so yards past me and walking straight away.

He walked the only path up and down that pinch that I couldn’t shoot and the only one down wind of me. Definitely a confidence builder for the season though knowing that I had my #1 in daylight this early, down wind, clueless of my presence, and got drawn on him. Now I just need to stick him and drop a check off at the taxidermist

Hunted Sat AM and PM. Tons of does. Zero sign of rut. Haven’t seen a single scrape or rub. I think the bucks are laying low and the does are fattening up. In my opinion everything is about a week behind schedule from a typical year.

Sat Friday and Saturday afternoons and not one deer. Sitting in a transition area on some acorns. I also did not see one scrape or rub yet. It was pretty disheartening…….Gotta get better soon!

been watching bucks work scrapes. Started seeing action sunday night of the youth hunt. Had 5 bucks go and work scrapes. Last week they put in 11 new one in a 300 yards edge of my food plot. Also put the horn together this weekend had one shooter come in and a small buck.

Did the same as Kooty took the weekend off from hunting with the crappy weather but did manage to get an old monster ladder stand up for shot gun season. It is an old stand and a beast to get set up, took 3 guys to get it done and we could have used 4. It is in a sweet spot that I turkey hunted this spring and saw quite a few deer from, cant wait to try it out when gun season opens.

Wow, that’s a big one. Enough room to lay down and nap if you wanted.

I was out in SD pheasant hunting, the birds were down and we ended up averaging about a bird per person a day. We found this sad scene yesterday, it smelled pretty bad so i didn’t do a ton of investigating but it looked like a bow kill that go lost. Too bad, had a lot of potential. In SD there were a ton of rubs and scrapes everywhere.

Last week in SE MN there were plenty of rubs and scrapes emerging. I think my first day in the stand this year will be Wednesday

I would agree with flatland that Friday night was awesome, by my account anyway, this is our first year bowhunting. Had a group of 7 doe file through and then following them about 10 min later was a very nice 10 pt. All about 60 yds though, they have 2 main paths they follow and so far I have always chosen to sit on the wrong one and then right at dark 2 doe and a 6 pt came through. Quite a few scrapes are starting to pop up and did witness a small 6 grunting and harassing a doe. Afternoon sits have by far outproduced morning sits

I spent the weekend at our deer shack getting ready for gun season. It was my daughters first time “at the shack”. She had a good time. We checked cameras and got quite a few pics of does, one cow moose,a few 4 wheelers, and one little 8 pointer following a doe. After this past winter along the Canadian border I’m happy to see anything.

Did anybody see an uptick of deer movement on the 14 or 15th of OCT? I just checked the cams today and big bucks who had no reason moving during the middle of the day were cruising around Not like 6:55am, more like 10:30am and 4pm. Multiple cameras different deer, not spooked going about their business.

A slow Monday in the tree. Talked to a buddy and he said movement was slow again tonight.

I saw one doe early AM on Saturday and 8 doe and fawns in the last half hour of shooting light. I saw nothing on Sunday…but it did snow all day long. I happened across one small rub close to a shooting lane on one of my stands.

I would guess this was because we were slow close to full moon. We see a lot of deer movement midday on our cameras on bright moons. My theory is that they feed much later than dusk and then midday. I have bad evening sits on a bright moon. Just a hypothesis.
