He hit it a little back…slashed the liver, and exited very low. Hence the pools of blood.

Do horseshoes work in WI? Maybe some sort of cheese would work better?

It’s a little bitter/sweet to be done after 4 hours in the blind but I’m very proud of this deer. This is his 2nd year here on the farm. Full details, pics and some sketchy video to come.

Nice Buck! I know the feeling, so much preparation for such a short time chasing a buck! Excited to hear the story!

This weekend every year, for my birthday, I take the kid out of school on Friday and we head down to the happy hunting ground. well if any of you seen the weather from down here, if it has been a complete ran ouT. We managed to sit in the tower stand tonight and just at dark a nice big doe came through gave me a beautiful broadside shot. love spending time with my son, especially when there’s nothing else to distract either of us but Mother Nature.

Congrats again John! After the work that you have done to improve habitat at your place, especially considering the drive, I am happy for you that you were able to take the buck you wanted. He’s a good one for sure

I think you will look back later in the season and see it much more as sweet/bitter rather than bitter/sweet. We all love to hunt and spend time outdoors, but you put it all together and got it done on a mature buck the first night exactly as planned; alot to be said for that

    Time for a couple

Congrats Prieser! That is an awesome tradition and one that I am sure will be remembered forever! Back in the day, deer season was vacation from school for me as well. Some of my very first memories are hunting with my father on days almost exactly as you describe

Congrats to all you have been successful already! Some real dandies already down. Way to make short work of putting a hit lister down Kooty.

Jeepers, come hunt with me Ben. I could use some of that horseshoe you got hidden in your pack.

    Congrats Evan!

Kooty….Can I have my horseshoe back please?? Had a 150-160 class buck run up behind me, almost like he was dogging a doe (obviously a little early) saw him at 60 yards and by the time I stood up as fast as I could and take off my gloves he was at 10 yards, stopped behind a tree and caught me in mid draw. Adios amigo!

First archery deer. My 4th season hunting with a bow and finally got one. Ive passed up many does and small bucks over the past couple years, holding out for a nice buck. This year my area finally allows two deer so I didn’t hesitate to stick a doe as soon as I got a chance! PUMPED! 20yds double lung, went about 50 yds. Whole different experience than shooting a deer with a slug

Here’s my son with a doe he shot on 9-22. On 9-29 my daughter got to witness a bow kill for the first time. She thought that was the best and can’t wait until she is 10.

A buddy of mine and myself were able to sneak out yesterday afternoon and this morning in NW Wisconsin with hopes of putting some meat in the freezer before the rut starts kicking in.

Ended up going 2-2 on a couple of decent sized does.

Had a pretty good weekend in the stand! We put eyes on about a dozen deer on saturday with a little buck and the rest does.

Sunday my brother was able to get a 10 yard shot his second deer ever, a little 8. Pretty cool experience, I can say it comes close to shooting a giant!

We heard something crashing around in the woods behind us and finally I could hear a deer start trotting closer. I kept saying Pete get ready, he’s going to come soon. 20 seconds later I told him to get the gun up, I could hear him crash through the little bit of brush before the field edge, just as shooting light hit. I took a hard look, saw some antlers, and gave him the green light! He took a few steps out into the food plot, and looked up at us…but it was too late for him, as Pete connected at 10 yards. He ran 30 yards into the brush and tipped over.

Just watching it all progress and seeing the buck fever take over, and finally the excitement after the shot was amazing. He only gets to hunt a couple of days during the fall, and it’s great time to catch up with the little brother! It wasn’t a giant by any means, but like I said…I’ll give up a future giant for myself to see that big smile on his face!

It was a great weekend in the woods with my old man and brother! The time spent together in the woods is priceless!

Because I have nothing to show for myself. I want to share my brother’s success for 2012 and 2013. I haven’t finished writing the story about his 2012 buck; but I can’t help but to post pics of each before I finsh either story. The first is 2012, the second is from the day before yesterday.
