The perp, Troy Alan Reinke, after initially pleading not guilty, showed his yellow streak by copping a plea deal that sent him to jail, but only for 180 days.
Unfortunately for the hunters and real sportsmen and sportswomen, the plea deal was far, far too light. Prosecuters seemed to indicate that a conviction would be difficult because of the inability to prove that the perp actually killed the deer instead of found it already dead as he claimed.
Obviously, many deer hunters were (and still are)distressed at the lack of aggressiveness in prosecuting this case. Many feel that a plea deal should never have been offered, even if it meant there was a small chance that the perp would manage to convince a liberal jury that he didn’t commit any crimes.
