A Friend of mine shot a nice 8 Pt. buck with his Muzzleloader yesterday morning. When we got up to it something did not look right. Its hindend and spine looked rather skinny. I just though it may be run down from chasing doe’s ( he was comming to a scrape when shot ) After getting it dressed out and hung up we also noticed several lumps on the hind quarter and back. When we cut off the rear leg to start skinning it out a Green GOO started to drip out of it ( a rather fair amout of it – looked like Lime Green soft serve ice cream ) Really gross to say the least. We figure it may have been shot earlier during the gun season or was hit by a auto. We called the Game warden and asked what we should do. He said #1 don’t eat it. He said if we wanted the horns that the tag could not be replaced. If we had him come and get it then he could replace the tag. Since my friend was done for the season anyway he decided to just use his tag and keep the horns. The game warden said we could dispose of the deer in the woods on a friends land. He said the deer would have died from the infection and my friend probably saved it from a slow painfull death. Hated to see the meat go to waste but not much else we could do. After seeing the GOO none of us could have ever ate it.
