Got out early today overlooking a tilled corn field. 5 minutes into shooting time I watched a young buck chase a doe across the field 150 yards to the left, he pushed her at a dead sprint to another stand of oaks. 30 seconds later a small doe ran right past us, 10 yards away, at mach 10 and headed for the next field to the west. My girl said she thought it may have stopped at the end of the woods, and sure enough, one minute later it came out of the end of the woodline and sprinted 75 yard uphill into the field…and stopped suddenly and laid down.

We watched her lie for 15 minutes, lifting her head up every now and then. Then when she finally stood up she sprinted right to us, coming into the treeline 10 yards west.

I gave her the stop bleat, and my baby girl popped her in the gut…doh! She bounded a couple times and stopped 15 yards up hill. I couldnt see her at this point because she was behind me. I asked if she was down, and she says “No, she’s standing right there looking at me and she has blood running down her leg.” I said, ” Ummm, you should maybe put another in her, dont ya think?”

2nd shot got her right in the boiler room!!! She may just be a 1.5 yr old doe, but my girl couldn’t have been more excited!!! And of course Dad was kinda proud!!! She really could not have had a better guide…Umm I mean, morning!!!

Yeah buddy! Love stories like this one! And no worries that it was only a 1.5 yo deer cause she will remember it forever! My fisrt was a 1.5 yo doe 16 seasons ago and I remember it like it was yesterday. Congrats again!
