A season to remember

This season will be a hard one to top off. Me and my girlfriend both shot our biggest bucks to date. She arrowed hers on the evening of October 23rd. I happened to not be with her on this hunt, (work takes away quality hunting time) but her step dad happened to be right next to her. At 23 yards she released the arrow and at the same time the buck took one more step. She stuck it a little far back but because of the deer quartering away hard it lodged right in the opposite shoulder. Deer went maybe 175 yards and piled up. All done with her brand new Mathews Jewel shooting G5 T3 broadheads. Now fast forward to November 2nd, the last day until the orange army takes over. I knew i had to make something happen and this morning was perfect. At 7:30 a doe came out with a decent 2.5 year old 8 point, right behind them was the deer I ended up with. This big guy showed his dominance to the 8 pointer which scared him off. This all happened with in 75 to 100 yards. As I watched the buck and doe for 10 minutes or so he made a scrape, which was cool to see, and shortly after he bedded with the doe. I knew i had to do something, I picked up the grunt call and instantly he stood up, walked 10 yards to a tree and beat the living hell out of it. During this I kept makes soft grunts. Shortly after 8 he took a trail that I had a shooting lane cut at 45 yards. Made a maaaaa and released the arrow. Slightly quartering away he leaped forward and plunged into the woods. I knew i hit him a hair back so we gave him time. Started trailing at 11:15. There was a pile of blood where I shot him but only for 75 yards or so. The blood just stopped. After 45 minutes of working through the woods my buddy found him still alive. I walked to 25 yards and stuck him once more for the kill. We both could not be any happier with our deer and they both went to the taxidermist this week. We score both deer by adding the main beams, all tines, inside width, and circumferences at 4 points per side. Not sure if it is the correct way or not. The girlfriends went 101 4/8 gross, and mine went 156 5/8 gross.

Nice deer! How long were the main beams on your buck? Pretty cool how they wrap around and almost touch.
Congrats to the both of you.

    Congratulations to you both.
I love the rounding characteristics this rack has. Even the G2’s and G3’s are trying to come together. Awesome job. Did you know if the buck called your place home or was he just passing through?
