My Dad’s new “Hilton Inn”

My dad has been having miserable health problems and the cold air is really making him live a sheltered life these days. After last year of him only hunting 1 morning, I thought I would do what a good son should do.
We have a tradition of building stands and naming them after hotel/motels. Well, The Hilton, has been on my mind for a couple years. Located centered in my back field, offers 400+ yrds of shooting in most directions.
7′ x 7′ – 17’6 to the floor. 4/12 gabled roof, 48×48 slide-by windows, R-18 walls, tiolet (well…a bucket with drain line) Recliner, shooting table, 40,000 BTU heater…. But i drew the line at installing the solar panels, marine batteries, inverter, and TV I’ll never get my dad out of there.
Anyways, here is how far I got until I shot a nail through my thumb. Slowed me down yesterday and I only got the roof framed and shingled. Still need to wrap the foam, ty-vek, set windows, side it, and cut install the stair case.

Dan- my dad is 76. In many ways he is doing great. He had both knees replaced and that really helped him for a few years. Now its his hips, back, neck…hands…and as soon as the temps drop below 40, he’s pretty miserable and stiff.

I fear the tax man I’ll get dinged for this one. Considering it is a permanent structure that is cemented in the ground, I’ll know they will get me. It is visible from the road at about 900 yrds away and visible from a road to the west at over a mile away.

Ya Randy hes getting up there and its nice your helping him. I’m sure the blind helps him be as comfortable as he can be and he can use it for years to come.

On a side note hows your trapping doing. I was out splitting firewood this morning and theres a guy who goes up river with his jon and hes trapping beavers. Hes up river about 1/2 hr. and then comes back down. I haven’t talked to him and the guy who owns the land I’m making firewood on, says he trapped that stretch of the river for beaver last year too. I don’t know if hes going only for beaver, or muskrats and coons too. There ougt to be alot of exposed den holes with the low water.

I was actually going to get officially started today, but blowing my thumb apart put me behind. I can’t grip a trap right now. Left hand is still swelled up down through my wrist and can’t apply any pressure.
