How did I screw this up?

I was looking at the deer map for my area last night and noticed I was in a lottery. How did I miss that? We have never been in a lottery before. Luckily my 13 year old can shoot an either or with his tag but that will have to wait for the last day as we have to get him his first buck this year. Side question. Could I shoot a doe with my bow and still buck hunt with a rifle? The way I read it, it is no.

The great thing about the newer rules is that you can go to another area within A season or B and shoot doe out of a managed area with the proper tag. As far as your bow question, I thought you could shoot either or statewide, but I haven’t bow hunted for about 6 years.

You can but the lottery area messes with it I believe. I pull the regs again.

Lottery deer areas: The bag limit is one deer total per year, regardless of license type. If you take a deer in a lottery deer area, you cannot take another deer in another lottery or hunter choice deer area. However, you can take deer in managed or intensive deer areas provided you adhere to the regulations and bag limits for those areas. Bonus permits are not valid in lottery deer areas.

The above is from the regs. The way I read this is if I shoot a doe with my bow I can’t shoot a buck with my rifle main tag.

I would agree. To shoot a buck, you’d need to hunt in an intensive or managed area.
