Shot this buck on Sunday night…here’s the scoop…
After being out all night on saturday for college reasons , I skipped hunting Sunday morning (10/14) and slept all day. At about 4:00 (I was running late), I decided to go ahead and head out hunting. After a few practice shots in the backyard I started walking towards a stand north of my house (I live at home ). The wind was right for that stand, but as I entered the woods, something didn’t feel right. So I bee-lined in back to the house and to a stand to the east about 30 yds from a field edge right at the corner of our 20 acre woods. All the corn is off now, so I can see for a LONG ways out. As I was pulling my bow up to my tree, I saw this guy headed my way on a dead sprint-probably 200 yards out. I literally grabbed my bow, threw an arrow in, and shot him at 10 yards as he stopped for a breather. Not the biggest buck in the world but I couldn’t be happier with him. First decent buck out of our 20 acres for me. Main frame 8 point with a forked left G2. Shorter main beams than I was hoping, but a big bodied buck. I’m guessing 3.5 years old because of the mass and body size. Rough scored last night at 119 5/8.
On a side note, I have no idea why this buck came running in at 4:30 from the wide open spaces. My guess was something had been chasing him, but from where he came from, the nearest bedding cover is a half mile away…anyways, I believe thats 19 points for my team!
