Went out Sunday night thinking the deer were really gonna move after all the rain we had. Made it to stand and deer were coming to the field at 5:30, despite the high winds. Watching more deer come to the field but all does and coming out 200yrds away, I’m hoping the bucks will come out my way and work over the beans in front of my stand. 6:20 see couple more deer enter the field 200yrds away I glassed and wow a shooter, knowing he won’t feed my way I tickled the rattle bag and got his attention. Then for no reason him and a smaller buck trot back into the woods. You can amagine what my first word was. Now I’m just waiting for it to get pitch black to get out and try another day. Then I noticed something big appear to my left in the beans at 15yrds it’s him. Grabbed the Z7 extreme and anchored it back as he’s walking in front of the stand. Now he’s at 20 and slightly quart-ed too, two more steps and the arrow is gone. Heard the thwack and he’s off to the races. Watching this buck run back to were he first entered the field and back in the woods. got the heck outa there and gave him some time and rounded up couple buddies to track. Made the call to the neighbor to get permission to track, but was unable to speak with him. We went back and track were he crossed the fence and had to leave. What a sleeples night that was. Finally got permission the next morning and were back on blood, checking the blood from the night was still looking good despite the heavy frost. We crossed the fence looked at the blood and I picked my head up and 75 yrds in front of us I see an [censored] laying on the logging road what a re-leaf. Still not really knowing how big the dude was we walked up and holly S@$% is he big. Gross scored at 184 and figured is live weight +/-275. took him to the taxidermist today and aged the teeth around 5 1/2 or 6 1/2. Only had pics of 160ish deer, never had any photos of this ol boy. What and experience this was.
