I don’t use a lot of scents, but when I do I use doe in heat urine and i only use it when the wind is just right for it and only during rut. I have never had an encounter with any big deer using scents so I’m not a giant fan. My best luck comes when I setup on a funnel to a doe bedding area and play the odds.

I’ve tried a lot of different stuff. So far, I’ve yet to feel super confident that the scent I put out is “working” in my favor.

This year, I’m trying the deer herd in a stick again. This time, I’m going to make a pronounced line to me. It will be interesting to see what the deer do.

The only thing ive used over the last 4 years or so is BF Synthetics. I only use these in scrapes and mock scrapes. Otherwise, my philosophy is: The stealthier the better

Mixed results on scents for me. The first doe I ever shot with a bow had her nose on a wick full of Trails End 307. Once I had a spike stop dead in his tracks, turn 90 degrees and come 40 yards to stick his nose on a wick of buck urine. With that said I have had countless deer to walk right past or on other trails seeming to not care that I put a lure out.
At best, I might use something on me or my boots as a cover scent. Not every time I hunt either.

Something I’m trying this year is Nose Jammer. It’s not a luring scent, but thought I’d throw it out there. I had two coyotes pass by me at 15 yards, dead down wind a few weeks ago. Either the dumbest dogs ever or the cover scent was workin.

I’m personally done with using scents. I’ve had much more success with going natural rather than trying to fool a whitetails nose.

What I am a big fan of is finding a hot scrape and licking branch from (from an area a few miles away) and relocationg right next to my stand.

i quit using scent several years ago – too messy and just didnt have that much success with it.
i focus on trying to be as scent-free personally as possible.
sometimes i’ll use a scent drag with doe-in-heat during the rut if i have a long walk in.
wish i had bought stock in one of the big scent producers 10 years ago. my portfolio would be looking a lot better.

i couldn’t imagine hunting in late Oct. without using a scent dripper. I always wait until Oct. 17-18 before setting up my dripper on an existing scrape. I usually wait 2-3 days before hunting over it or a location that leads to or from it and have had deadly results… including my PB buck (174″).

I like to mix Active Scrape and Trails End #307 in the dripper bottle and spray a 10-15′ (in diameter) circle of Golden Estrus on all the weeds, brush, etc below.

I do this on 3-5 diff set-ups and put a camera on each. After the 2-3 days, I go back and check all the cams and make my decision on which area to hunt…. often times, not on the scrape itself but the travel route to or from. (depends on where I can get a shot during daylight)

OK thanks guys I have been useing scent for aloy of years but cant think of a time I thought it worked.my dad says year after year he has them follow his drag rag in during rut but ive never had it happen. Im thinking now get rid of it all together and go as scent free as possible. Maybe do a drag rag at rut but that will be it. I do recall two years ago I tried one of those spendy buck bombs for the heck of it on a morning sit rut shotgun opener and 20 min in I had a 135 inch 9 pointer come running in right down wind and shot it at 10 yards who knows if it was that or just luck?

I set up a few scent Drippers about a week before firearm season each year. I also almost always hand out a few wicks with scent on them. I feel that the scent has helped me more than it has hurt me. I use them to try to position a deer or stop a deer in a good shooting location – This has stopped more than a few deer in a prime shooting lane so that I could make a good shot.
