    GOOD

Getting back in the woods was awesome! Over the course of the weekend I saw 34 deer in two alfalfa fields including several young bucks, and another two young bucks in the woods.

    BAD

There weren’t any shooters hitting our alfalfa fields during shooting hours.

    UGLY

After not seeing any shooters in the alfalfa I decided to set up a camera on the main trail heading into one of our corn fields thinking that maybe the older bucks were staying hidden in the corn. As I was walking the edge of the field I came across a very disappointing sight directly in front of the main trail entering the field. This is very near to the area where we have been seeing wolves and although the ground was too dry to see any definitive tracks I’m pretty sure this was a wolf kill

At least they/it did a nice job of butchering…very little waste there. Bones, hide, and a bit of rib meat.

I’ve come across carcasses that “sportsman” shot, with far more meat on them.

Makes you wonder at times who the better stewards are…

Well good thing to get rid of that buck. As we know the wolves only kill the sick and injured and weak and diseased animals in the herd.

    Where in MN are you?

Our farm is located one mile East Mille Lacs lake in Malmo, MN. Another farmer just a few miles further South from us and a couple miles East on Hwy 18 recently lost a couple young cattle to wolves as well.

The reason for the is that it was frustrating to see one of our nice young bucks taken. Don’t get me wrong I have a lot of respect for wolves as they are a much more efficient predator than we are and a very pretty cool animal in general. Just not something I like having around the farm
