Settled in back in the woods instead of a field edge for the first time this season. I have my cousins husband from California with me running the camera , hope to let him hear an arrow smack one before dark…

Got settled in! Got doe bedded down underneath the tree! She’s lucky she’s only 1.5! Sitting by some water!
mitch_ottoPosts: 176September 28, 2012 at 10:23 pm #124049She got up and she’s got a friend now! Hopefully there male friends show up!
mitch_ottoPosts: 176September 29, 2012 at 11:44 am #124064Well last night was awesome! Seen two does that were around the whole night then had one 2.5 yr old half rack 6 point and a 4by 2 around for the last hour sparring 20 yds from standing in creek! That was the coolest sound ever! Water splashing and horns! Back at it this am! Hoping to catcha biggun headed to bed!

September 29, 2012 at 8:49 pm #124080Well, I’m sitting here overlooking a great food plot with my new Matthews bow and I can’t even shoot a deer! Bob won’t give me my new broadheads until he said I can draw my bow back on a deer without getting nervous, shaking, or start to cry! What a bummer! Well, hey, at least sitting in this tree will be peaceful and I won’t get swore at (for any of you who read my bear story !

Very good morning. 6 does/fawns and 2 small bucks. Lots of grunting and bleating going on? Had two small bucks sparring 10yrds away on video. Tonight i am going to try the horns lightly. Hopefully this little bit cooler weather gets them moving
Very cool! What kind of cam and cam arm do you have in that pic?
that is a muddy outdoors camera arm with a cannon hd video camera. Not sure the exact model, but it costs $1200 and does anything a big shoulder camera does. We ended up shooting a doe that night and are in the process of editing and putting the video together
September 29, 2012 at 9:52 pm #124082Set up 1/4 mile back in big timber tonight. Very close to the bedding area. 80 degrees. Full moon and deer hunting for mature bucks in the early season I really should know better
mitch_ottoPosts: 176September 30, 2012 at 1:05 am #124083Setup along a diffrent water source tonight and man did it pay off! 8 does and 2 bucks! The deer sure love water on the hot days! Was only in stand 45 mins before had deer drinking out of creek!
October 2, 2012 at 8:06 pm #124218Check it. Last weekends hunt!

October 3, 2012 at 11:05 pm #124292Good luck Pro. I’m sitting on the couch watching hunting. Jealous!
October 5, 2012 at 6:49 pm #124412Picked up a new Summit Climber today to make myself a little more mobile on my 1000 acre property here in SE MN windy day but can’t harvest a deer on the couch!
October 5, 2012 at 8:10 pm #124415This monster messy oak I am in is one of my favorite trees. Sitting inbetween a 3 acre bean field that has been devoured all summer and still has some food and an oak hump littered with acorns. Wind blows but I could not pass up this sit. I love not sweating on my way in! Fall is here!!!
October 6, 2012 at 9:03 pm #124453Had some good action this morning! Climbed into the stand about 10 minutes before legal shooting time. Before I could get my jacket on and my bow pulled up, I had a buck come out into the field. So while he fed on corn 45 yards away, I quickly pulled the bow up and got ready. He moved off before it got light enough to tell how big he was. I think he was small though as he was pretty close and I couldn’t make out his rack with the rangefinder.
Then about 1/2 hour after the sun came up, I heard a deer come running towards me from straight downwind. A doe came busting out of the brush and stopped on the field road broadside at 8 yards. She kept flicking her tail and looking back into the woods. There was another deer coming, but I never saw it as she took off like her tail was on fire. She went tearing back into the woods and looped around my stand to get back to where she came from. That was all for the sit, but it sure was fun to see some good activity for 2 hours on stand.
I then went to move a stand which was only about 150 yards away from where I was sitting. I was moving the stand from right on the field edge to a main intersection 25 yards away. This stand location would allow me to shoot to the field edge, but also cut down the distance on my shots in the woods. After 1.5 hours of cutting, hanging and cussing I was about to head out, when I heard a deer running towards me. I thought I saw a little bit of antler coming through the woods, so I quickly popped up the ladder sticks to see what was coming. It was a big doe (possibly the one from before) with a little basket rack 6 in tow. She got downwind of me and I thought it was all over, but she stomped a little bit and they moved off. I last saw them about 30 yards away at the edge of a thicket. So I held out on the sticks for about 10 minutes before climbing down. As the last branch cracked to the ground, I watched the buck and doe jump up and take off out of their beds where I had just seen them.
Needless to say, it was a cool morning. I was quite surprised that that buck was on that doe already. I’m guessing she was the same one from earlier based on her actions while I was on stand. Maybe we are in for an early rut?!?
October 6, 2012 at 9:04 pm #124454Wow! Didn’t realize how long-winded I was in that post. My apologies for the length!
October 6, 2012 at 10:20 pm #124457Waiting to see what this cooler weather brings. Got an acres of turnips and radishes in front of me and an acre of corn behind me. The greens on the radishes have been absolutely hammered!
October 6, 2012 at 11:09 pm #124461Two young bucks and a doe in the turnips, hopefully the bigger ones are thinking the same way! Little 8 just walked passed the blind here at about 5 yards ha ha, so awesome when they get so close to the ground blind!
mitch_ottoPosts: 176October 7, 2012 at 9:10 pm #124484Just getting settled in for the night! Set up on edge of freshly pick corn field! Should be a good night! Good luck everyone!
October 7, 2012 at 9:35 pm #124485Set up in a patch of oak trees about 100 yards down from a corn and hay field. already seen 8 does this weekend grazing on acorns before they head to the fields hope to see a few bucks tonight
October 9, 2012 at 11:14 pm #124650Told myself this morning nothing but something that would go on the wall.I have had more does and fawns walk by me today than I’ve ever seen in one day,but not a single inch of horn. But its not dark yet
October 10, 2012 at 10:50 pm #124691What a great night, wind in my face, cloudy and I saw 3 bucks cruising on the way home.
