I just started to read the report from Dr. Deer on the WI deer herd populations. Haven’t gotten too far into it, but so far its a lot of what we already know Hopefully there is more substance to it as I get further. Like I said, i haven’t gotten that far

I’ve only read through the first 13 pages. So far, I like what I’m seeing. However, I’m disconnected from the existing info being across the border.

Well I read the whole thing last night. Kinda skimmed some of the CWD stuff because it is old news and pretty much southern part of the state. Although it has consumed most of the budget and time in the last few years. The report seems like a general synopsis of everything that gets thrown around. From disbelief of deer numbers by the public and desires of the biologists for carrying capacity. Private land vs public land and predators and habitat. What I took from it is that alot more research and data gathering is needed and funding like always is critical. Sounds like based on this that CWD stuff will be toned down. Couple intersting facts were the lack of forest cutting and new growth which generates great habitat and feed. I’ve seen this in our area up north. When we had the logging going on we had great deer numbers in the years following. The other note I caught that finally reflects what I have seen is the huge increase in bear numbers. And in studies they have shown how effective they are at taking fawns. If bear numbers are so high why does it take 7-8 yrs to draw a tag? Will be interesting to see how things move forward.
