Ok he we go. I just found out today that someone found the buck i hit durning bow season. which i’m upset with myself i din’t make a better shot. Here is the thing that got me thinking. The person tht found it i thought was a better friend but i was wrong. I can care less about the rack, all i wantn’t to know is where i hit it and did the arrow deflect and not go where i thought it did. The shot was a hard angle away. ithought i hit just over the rump. I guess from what i heard from someone i trust is he saying i give him the rack but it was such a bad shot im not going to. Which again i didn’t care about the rack the arrow placement and where my arrow went is what i wanted to know. Should this bother me that he want even tell me he found it. Side note is i given these guys shed s of bucks they have shot over the years. I just can’t believe that he never called.

Wow. Sounds like you guys need to sit down over a cold one. Maybe gentle friendly reminders that you have given them sheds in the past will help. At first glance though, it sounds like they are not as good of friends as you had thought. I hope I’m wrong and there is just a mis-communication at this point.
I’ve said it a million times, deer make people crazy!

Been there done that… Huntalot60, I hope everything works out for ya!May 3, 2012 at 1:18 am #120347That sucks! I hit a buck about 5 years ago and didn’t find it. 3 weeks later the owner of the land next to us came up to hunt his property and found the buck. He heard I had hit a nontypical so he gave me a call saying he may have found the buck I hit. I described it to him and he said come on up and get it.I barely new him then but we keep in good contact now. With that being said I really don’t think the guy that found the buck you hit is that good of a friend.
May 3, 2012 at 1:51 am #120348It doesn’t matter how good of a shot you are, eventually a shot won’t exactly hit it’s intended mark. Karma has a good way of catching up with people. Keep your chin up and don’t let people who aren’t worth your time keep you down. Take satisfaction in now knowing if the animal is alive or dead. Hope you eventually get the buck back though.
May 3, 2012 at 2:10 am #120352how would you be able to tell where you hit it by just seeing the rack?
Maybe ask the guy if you can just have a look at it by picture or in person
May 3, 2012 at 2:29 am #120353Some people ! Not even close to the friend category, not even a good neighbor. Good luck, the guy that found it should understand your perspective but maybe he needs it spelled out for him. hope you are able to find some answers.

This is why it bothers me. He found the deer with a arrow in it from what i was told. Therefroe i would have been able to see what happen if it kicked funny or what. this is all i wanted to know. For people that know me, i work hard at everything to be perfect(far from it) when it comes to bowhunting. So seeing what happen with put my mind at rest.
backstraps1Posts: 49May 3, 2012 at 5:57 pm #120370I had the same thing happen to me this year, first buck i have ever taken a shot at with my bow been hunting with a bow for 10 years(i wont shoot a small one, i like the challenge of shooting a mature deer). I hit him back and low, i knew i didnt make the shot i wanted. I let him go all night can in the next day and i ended up jumping him 200 yards from where i shot him. I then backed out and called my uncle and older brother to see what i should do. So i back out came back 5 hours with my brother and uncle. We got on the blood again where i jump eariler in the day. We tracked him for another 100 to 150 yards and he jumped again and he headed into a standing corn field… So we tryed to stay on him but we ended up losing the blood. So we contacted both land owners on each side of the property we hunt and let them know i hit a buck and if the found him give us a call. So shotgun season began and i was at the local tavern and was talking to one of my buddies and he said that he heard the lawn owners nephew found a nice buck dead on there property, and he started to tell me what it was and knew then it was the buck i hit eairler in the year. So we contacted the lawn owner to see if we can get it back…No call back or anything. i was going to tag it and everything cause being the first buck with a bow i wanted to get it mounted. But we never did hear from him so life goes on, it just stinks people do this to others..
May 4, 2012 at 3:51 am #120387well i know it was the buck i hit found out he has my arrow also . it was still stuck in him. On a side note alot of people are upset with the deal. Found out he would score in the 140’s and they say he was at least a 4 year old. I will talk to the guy when i drive by and see what he says when i talk to him face to face. who know he might even give me the rack or at least tell me the angle of the hit and where for sure. My guess is i was off by 4 inches to far back and caught the the hip instad of going over it.
May 4, 2012 at 1:04 pm #120394I hope you can find out about the shot. Maybe even get the rack after you have a discussion with the guy. Good luck!!
May 10, 2012 at 3:53 pm #120564Went and talk to the guy the other day and it went well. he goign to keep the rack for now. buck must have duckand spun up hill from where the arrow was in him. i hit about 4 in lower than i wanted to if i would have been even 2 inch higher he would have made it 100 yeards. I’m going to go get some pics of it maybe this weekend i will post them when i get them. Main frame 8 with a kicker score right at 140. Figure him to at least a 4.5 but likely a 5.5 year old. Sucks but at least i now know. He said it didn’t look like he lasted long after the hit and that was good to here. total distance traveled was about 1.75 miles only was short 3/4 of a mile on my tracking.
May 10, 2012 at 4:12 pm #120565Thanks for the update.
But WHY is he keeping the rack? Did you ask for it or did he say he needed to think about it? What kind of outdoorsman does that? I don’t get it at all.muskybonesPosts: 372May 10, 2012 at 5:08 pm #120567one of my buddys hit one 2 years ago. i gave it to him after he desribed it.
May 10, 2012 at 5:28 pm #120568he said he wanted to show people what they can grow into if you let them go. He said down the road he might give it to me. Diffrent strokes for diffrent folks.I would give it to who shot it but that me and i’m ok with his decision.
May 10, 2012 at 6:34 pm #120571Not ideal but at least he is working towards a similar goal of spreading the word about qdm ! I hope it works out for both of you .

May 11, 2012 at 2:45 pm #120617Kudos to you for approaching him and being “OK” with his decision to keep the rack. That’s not an easy thing to accept.
However, I must say that I’m disappointed in your friend that he wants to keep the rack. There’s no reason for it – if he wants to show people what they can grow into then he could send them to your house to see the mount. Hopefully he will overcome being jealous and ends up doing the right thing.
May 12, 2012 at 10:46 pm #120629i was over and talk to other guy who pulled my arrow out. It was right at the base of the tail for hieght and a inch to the left. Which if he duck and spun that is where it would have ended up. So i can see why he is thinking the way he is. It was a bad hit no matter how u look at it. The only one to blame is me for the hit. I’m still bother by it.
May 28, 2012 at 1:31 pm #120880Well went to talk to the guy and pick up my arrow. I also took my sheds on over to see if i had any that was from him. I had one side of him. He said he was going to give me the rack back in a year or so. He wants to show the people what happens when you let them go to get older. So i said you might as well hang on the shed also so they can see the jump he made. So all is good.
